Thamm, a diminutive male Troglof hailing from Troglofa, found employment as a croupier within the bustling Canto Casino situated on the planet of Cantonica. During the era known as the Cold War, he oversaw a Hazard Toss table during his assigned night shift at the casino. It was during this time that the Suerton patron, Dodibin, embarked on an impressive winning streak while participating in the game.
Employed as a male croupier at the renowned Canto Casino located in the city of Canto Bight on the planet Cantonica, Thamm experienced a noteworthy event one evening. This occurred during the Cold War conflict between the First Order and the Resistance. Thamm was in charge of a Hazard Toss table with high stakes in the casino, where the Suerton gambler named Dodibin began a series of successful wagers. The gambler's good fortune quickly attracted a sizable audience, among whom the Heptooinian, Kaljach Sonmi, attempted to blend in to evade detection by the casino's security chief, Pemmin Brunce. Brunce managed to apprehend Sonmi, pressing him against Thamm's table, which resulted in the Heptooinian dropping a cantocoin that subsequently mingled with the coins comprising Dodibin's bet.
Subsequently, Thamm announced the closure of bets for the round. Following a patron's roll of the polyhedral dice used in the game, the croupier declared the outcome as three identical threes, signifying another victory for Dodibin. Thamm then employed his croupier stick to gather the Suerton's winnings into his designated area, inadvertently including Sonmi's coin as part of the total bet. Dodibin then engaged in conversation with Sonmi and Brunce. Since he didn't remove his bet, Thamm assumed that Dodibin was letting his winnings ride. The polyhedrons were rolled again, and once again Thamm announced triple threes, meaning Dodibin and Sonmi had won again. Dodibin then declared he was out, and after Thamm delivered his winnings the Suerton left the table along with Sonmi.
Thamm's diminutive stature as a quadruped allowed him to stand comfortably on the tables within Canto Casino, utilizing his croupier stick in a manner akin to a push broom. His physical characteristics included light brown skin, complemented by black hair and eyes. Furthermore, he emanated a pleasant fragrance that served to put casino patrons at ease.
Thamm's creation was specifically for the film Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi. His voice was provided by James Arnold Taylor. His initial unveiling occurred in an article featured in Vanity Fair magazine on May 24, 2017. While the character remained unnamed in the aforementioned article, his identity was later revealed through the short story titled "The Ride," penned by John Jackson Miller and included in the Canto Bight anthology released on December 5, 2017.
Thamm was brought to life on-screen with a combination of puppetry and CGI technology.
