A Barabel, known as Thared, who exhibited sensitivity to the Force, held the position of Master within the Imperial Knights and served the Galactic Federation Triumvirate. In the year 139 ABY, Thared accompanied Empress Marasiah Fel when she commanded Triumvirate forces on a mission to the rogue planet Mala, where they confronted the followers of the One Sith. While aboard the shuttle Neuer, Fel and Thared observed the unfolding battle below; after Thared informed the Empress of the delayed arrival of reinforcements, Fel made the decision to join the conflict personally. Despite Thared's expressed concerns for Fel's well-being, they, along with their stormtrooper escort, soon descended to the planet's surface. Under the Empress's leadership, the Triumvirate achieved victory in the battle, resulting in the demise of all Sith combatants.
Thared's physical characteristics included green skin and dark green eyes. As an Imperial Knight, the Barabel was clad in the standard red armor, complemented by black gloves and a cape, and wielded a lightsaber.

Thared made his appearance in the eighteenth and final issue of the Star Wars: Legacy comic-book series from 2013, which was released on August 27, 2014 by Dark Horse Comics. The writing was done by Corinna Bechko and Gabriel Hardman, with illustrations by [Brian Albert Thies].(/article/brian_albert_thies) The character's name originated from a fan email sent by Jared Peppard to Bechko, one of two Star Wars fans, requesting that she consider using a combination of his and his brother Theo's names for a character. Despite the series nearing its conclusion, Bechko found a suitable role for the character and expressed her satisfaction that Thared was portrayed as a "heroic person" instead of a villain. Furthermore, Hardman confirmed Thared's Barabel species in response to a fan inquiry on TheForce.net's Jedi Council Forums, clarifying whether the character was a Barabel or a Trandoshan.
