Legacy 18, the concluding chapter of the Star Wars Legends comic book saga, Star Wars: Legacy, represents the eighteenth installment. This issue, brought to life by writers Corinna Bechko and Gabriel Hardman, with illustrations by Brian Albert Thies, debuted under the Dark Horse Comics banner on August 27, 2014. Notably, it served as the final Star Wars comic released by Dark Horse within the Legends timeline, marking the chronological end of stories within that continuity.
Dark Horse Comics eventually made a return to the Star Wars comic scene in 2022, introducing its inaugural canon comic series, Star Wars: Hyperspace Stories.
Ania Solo and her allies find themselves in the midst of a battle, fighting alongside the Imperial Knights and the Empress herself against a massive Sith force! While the conflict for galactic dominance rages on, Ania's personal battle is to rescue her friend, the Imperial Knight Jao Assam, who has fallen under the dark side's control!
After Ania Solo was taken captive, her Imperial Knight ally, Jao Assam, halts his pursuit of the renegade Sith Darth Wredd, who had designs on assassinating the Galactic Empress Marasiah Fel, the leader of the Imperial Knights. Following a difficult rescue operation, Ania faced arrest, accused of murdering the Imperial Knight Teemen Alton. However, Jao successfully exonerated Ania, presenting evidence that the true culprit was a deceased bounty hunter who had attempted to frame her. Despite Ania's acquittal and release by the Galactic Federation Triumvirate, Jao Assam was apprehended and imprisoned for deserting the Imperial Knights, an offense punishable by death. While incarcerated, he received a visit from his target, Darth Wredd, who facilitated his escape. Jao resolves to shadow Wredd to thwart his scheme against Empress Fel.
The Battle of the Floating World escalates into a full-blown conflict between the One Sith and the Imperial Knights, who had dispatched a substantial force to the floating world of Mala in pursuit of the rogue Sith, Darth Wredd. Within a few hours, the battlefield was littered with the bodies of numerous Sith and Imperial Knights. During the hostilities, Antares Draco, the Imperial forces' commander, sustains injuries from a One Sith combatant. However, Ania and her Mon Calamari companion Sauk come to his aid, tending to his wounds. Following the incapacitation of Draco, her lover, Empress Fel joins the battle. Ania and Sauk support the Imperial forces by destroying a Chadra-Fan Lander being utilized by the Sith. Darth Wredd also assists the Imperial Knights by eliminating numerous Sith, seeking retribution for the destruction of his home planet and the loss of his family.
Empress Fel and Jao reunite during the battle, and she advises him to be wary of their Sith ally. By day's end, the Imperial Knights had successfully eliminated all Sith resistance, except for Darth Wredd. Ania's friend, the assassin droid AG-37, posits that all Sith infiltrators in the galaxy perished in the fighting. Marasiah Fel commands the Imperial shuttle Neuer to evacuate the wounded Imperials and instructs her Knights to search for any surviving Sith. While tending to the injured Antares Draco, Empress Fel is stabbed in the chest by Darth Wredd, who has emerged from hiding. Enraged, Jao attacks Darth Wredd, severing his hands with his lightsaber. Wredd implores Jao to destroy him, asserting that the Sith must be eradicated for the sake of the galaxy and his family's memory.
However, Jao declines to kill Darth Wredd, recognizing that such an act would complete his descent into the dark side. Ultimately, Ania Solo eliminates Darth Wredd by firing a blaster at his chest. After the battle, the wounded Empress Fel is evacuated. During his reunion with Master Val, Jao concludes that Darth Wredd orchestrated the entire battle to punish and annihilate the One Sith for the harm they inflicted on his home world. However, he realized that he was the only Sith remaining and deliberately provoked Jao into attacking him to ensure the Sith's demise. Master Val believes that all Sith in the galaxy perished during the Battle of the Floating World, but Empress Fel remains doubtful.
Following the Battle of the Floating World, Empress Fel extends a job offer to Ania, proposing she become the captain of her personal guard. Disliking Coruscant, Ania declines the offer politely but secures clemency for Jao. Jao is permitted to join Ania and her companions, who depart Coruscant on AG-37's freighter after a heartfelt farewell with Jao's mentor, Master Val. By the following year, Ania and her companions were traveling throughout the galaxy. While visiting a cantina, Sauk successfully acquired a retrofitted stabilizing coil from Jariah Syn and his associates Cade Skywalker and Deliah Blue. Sauk's purchase of the starship component proved timely. Shortly thereafter, Sauk, Ania, Jao, and AG-37 are ambushed.
