Legacy 17, the seventeenth installment of the fresh Star Wars: Legacy comic book series, was made available on July 23, 2014.
Ania Solo, acting on the Empress's orders, embarks on a mission with a squad of stormtroopers to locate both Jao Assam and Darth Wredd. Returning to the same treacherous planet where her escapades began, Ania stumbles upon something entirely unexpected – a Sith army!
- Sith! Stormtroopers! And Solo!
After Ania Solo was taken, Jao Assam, the Imperial Knight who travels with her, halts his pursuit of the renegade Sith Darth Wredd. Wredd's objective was to eliminate Marasiah Fel, the Galactic Empress and leader of the Imperial Knights. Following a difficult rescue, Ania found herself under arrest, falsely accused of murdering Teemen Alton, another Imperial Knight. However, Jao successfully exonerates Ania by revealing evidence that the true culprit was a deceased bounty hunter who attempted to frame her. Although Ania is cleared and freed by the Galactic Federation Triumvirate, Jao Assam is apprehended and imprisoned for abandoning the Imperial Knights, a crime punishable by death. While incarcerated, he receives a visit from his target, Darth Wredd, who facilitates his escape. Jao resolves to shadow Wredd to thwart his scheme against Empress Fel. In the meantime, Ania, along with her friends Sauk, a Mon Calamari, AG-37, an assassin droid, and a group of Trandoshan stormtroopers, are dispatched by the Empress to rescue Jao Assam.
Following the receipt of Mala's coordinates from Jao, AG-37's freighter arrives at the floating world, which they had previously encountered during the Carreras Incident one year prior. AG-37's freighter makes planetfall in the vicinity of the ruined Carreras G51 communications array, which was destroyed in a collision with Mala during the Carreras Incident. After instructing her stormtroopers not to send any outgoing transmissions, Ania's rescue team explores a cave. Unbeknownst to Ania, one of the stormtroopers lingers behind and transmits a message to an unidentified party, later revealed to be the Fel Empire. Inside the cave, they discover Jao held captive, suspended by restraints. After freeing him, Jao discloses that Darth Wredd intended to draw the Imperials to Mala. Shortly thereafter, a fleet of civilian starships lands near the Carreras communications array.
These newcomers are revealed to be a massive army of One Sith, who had discovered Darth Wredd's location and were determined to hunt him down. Believing that Ania and the Imperials are harboring the rogue Sith, Fanoste, the Sith leader disguised as a diplomat, commands his followers to assault the Imperials and Ania's team. During the ensuing battle, Darth Wredd reappears and assists Ania's group by eliminating several Sith with his lightsaber. He also provides Jao with a Sith lightsaber, enabling the Imperial Knight to join the fight. Despite their courageous defense, Ania's team is quickly overwhelmed by the One Sith horde and is forced to retreat into the Carreras communications array.
As the battle rages on, Wredd and Jao manage to impede the One Sith advance by employing the Force to push a destroyed section of the communications array onto the One Sith horde, crushing many Sith. This allows Ania, Sauk, AG-37, and the stormtroopers to fall back to a trench within the communications array. Sauk confronts the stormtrooper who sent the transmissions, accusing him of collaborating with the Sith. However, the stormtrooper asserts his innocence and reaffirms his loyalty to Empress Fel. At that moment, Wredd arrives and declares that he is the Sith's true target. During an intense exchange with Jao, Wredd attempts to justify his actions by arguing that he is serving the Triumvirate by eliminating Sith infiltrators. Wredd also unveils his plans to reinstate the Rule of Two and offers Jao a position as his Sith apprentice.
Jao refuses Wredd's proposal and rejects the dark side of the Force, reaffirming his allegiance to the Empress. Their discussion is interrupted by the arrival of the One Sith army, who have caught up with Ania's group. Amid the fighting, Imperial reinforcements led by Empress Fel herself arrive at the communications array. A squadron of Predator-class fighters flies over the trench and strafes several Sith. After the One Sith reject an ultimatum from the Imperial authorities to surrender, the Empress deploys her Imperial Knights and stormtroopers onto the battlefield, marking the beginning of the second phase of the Battle of the Floating World.
