The Elder

"The Elder" was a human male who possessed sensitivity to the Force. Jedi Master Tajin Crosser put forth the idea that this individual had previously been a Sith, but had abandoned the group before its ultimate demise. Centuries after the Sith's downfall, he crossed paths with Tajin and his Padawan, Dan G'vash, on the planet of Habo in the Outer Rim Territories. After easily overpowering Dan, the dark side adept met his end at the hands of Tajin. His final action before death was to activate the detonation sequence of his personal starship, thereby hindering the Jedi's ability to uncover further details about him.

Biography

Early life

In his earlier years, The Elder acquired proficiency in lightsaber combat and developed some capabilities with Force powers, specifically Force lightning. The Elder engaged in combat on several occasions—times he referenced as "when he was much stronger"—and ultimately forsook his "faction" or the teachings he had received.

Duels On Habo

Later in his life, The Elder journeyed to Habo, where he defeated a Vamga. Subsequently, he encountered Dan G'vash, leading to a duel after Dan's unsuccessful attempt to interrogate The Elder. The Elder emerged victorious, under the impression that he had killed Dan. Several hours following The Elder's confrontation with Dan, Tajin Crosser, Dan's Jedi Master, engaged The Elder in combat. As the duel unfolded, The Elder's second lightsaber was swiftly destroyed, prompting him to unleash a surge of Force lightning. Tajin evaded, sidestepping and advancing on The Elder before initiating a downward strike. The Elder, however, parried Tajin's attack, releasing Force lightning from his open palm while raising his remaining lightsaber to strike him down. Dan, still alive, employed the Force to hurl his lightsaber at The Elder, compelling him to break off his attack and deflect the incoming weapon. Capitalizing on this distraction, Tajin swiftly retracted his lightsaber blade, stepped aside, and impaled The Elder through his heart, thus concluding the duel. As The Elder lay dying, he reached into his robes, grabbed a detonator, and activated it, causing the destruction of his starship, after which his body turned to dust.

Legacy

In the aftermath of the duel, Tajin and Dan were left to speculate about the identity and nature of The Elder. Tajin, however, concluded that he did not win the duel and instead the age of The Elder let him down causing him lose the duel. Tajin was of the opinion that if The Elder had been in his prime, the outcome of their confrontation might have been significantly different.

Personality and traits

The dark side adept possessed a demeanor of confidence and intimidation, despite his advanced age. He held a superior view of himself in comparison to his former colleagues in the Sith Order, believing them to be excessively consumed by their own desires for power, leading them to neglect their true destiny and ultimately causing their self-destruction.

Powers and abilities

The Elder showcases his Force lightning and one of his lightsabers.

The Elder demonstrated proficiency in both the Force and lightsaber combat, showing a preference for lightsaber combat over Force-based techniques. He tended to use the Force as a last resort or to provide assistance during his lightsaber duels. Tajin Crosser came to the conclusion after their duel that, had the Elder been in his prime, their duel could have ended with a different result. His favored Force ability was Force lightning, which he wielded with exceptional skill, capable of generating small explosions upon impact, halting a lightsaber swing, and employing it as a means of deflecting lightsaber strikes when necessary.

Behind the scenes

The Elder made an appearance in "The Elder," a short film featured in the Star Wars: Visions series. The Elder's voice is provided by Ken'ichi Ogata in the Japanese version and James Hong in the English version. The Elder's character is inspired by Miyamoto Musashi, a swordsman, philosopher, writer, strategist, and ronin. Similar to Musashi during his time as a ronin, the Elder is a wanderer who seeks out opponents to test his skills and wields two swords.
