Tajin Crosser

Tajin Crosser, a male human attuned to the Force, was a Jedi Master within the Jedi Order during the time of the Republic Era. Renowned as an explorer, Crosser spent a substantial portion of his career patrolling the Outer Rim Territories. Tales circulated that he had journeyed to more planets than any other Jedi. After a short break to begin training a Padawan, Dan G'vash, Crosser resumed his Outer Rim patrols, now accompanied by G'vash. During one such assignment, Crosser detected a significant disturbance in the Force. Their investigation led them to the secluded world of Habo, where the inhabitants spoke of a mysterious elder being.

To investigate the elder, Crosser and G'vash separated. Crosser began to suspect a connection between the elder and the long-vanished Sith Order, the Jedi's ancient adversaries. G'vash encountered the elder first and informed Crosser, but he disobeyed Crosser's instructions and engaged in a duel, sustaining a serious injury. Crosser hurried to his Padawan's location, where he, a pacifist, fought the elder, ultimately defeating him with assistance from his wounded apprentice. As he met his end, the elder remotely triggered the destruction of his starship before dissolving into dust, preventing Crosser and G'vash from uncovering the man's true identity.

Biography

Patrolling the Outer Rim

Hundreds of years following the supposed destruction of the Sith in the Jedi-Sith War circa 1032 BBY, Tajin Crosser served the Jedi Order. As a Jedi Master, Crosser frequently volunteered to serve across the galaxy, patrolling areas of the Outer Rim Territories on behalf of the Jedi. His extensive travels made him well-versed in the cultures he encountered, and he was rumored to hold the record for the most planets visited by a Jedi. However, he doubted the veracity of this claim. Crosser's patrol duties were briefly interrupted when he accepted Dan G'vash as his Padawan, dedicating his time to training him. Eventually, Crosser decided to resume his former work alongside his Padawan, believing it could enhance his lessons. Crosser volunteered himself and his Padawan for missions in the Outer Rim, and he was assigned to areas where Jedi patrols had been delayed.

Though Crosser was eager to return to the Outer Rim, his apprentice Dan G'vash found the experience underwhelming.

Despite Crosser's enthusiasm for returning to his duties, G'vash was disappointed. He had anticipated action and excitement in the Outer Rim, but instead found their work uneventful. One day, while on patrol, Crosser entered the cockpit of their ship, where G'vash was observing hyperspace through the window. After inquiring about his apprentice's well-being, Crosser informed G'vash of an upcoming hyperspace jump. As Crosser sat down, G'vash asked if he knew the number of planets he had visited, but Crosser could not recall. G'vash recounted stories of Crosser's numerous missions and suggested he held the record for most planets visited by a Jedi. Tajin chuckled at the notion, expressing his doubt. G'vash then asked why Crosser had chosen to return to the Outer Rim, to which Crosser replied it was for his apprentice's training. Dan expressed his disappointment at the mission's subdued nature.

Crosser countered that danger often lurks beneath the surface of peace. Soon after, Crosser sensed a disturbance in the Force. He and G'vash exited hyperspace, but when G'vash inquired if Crosser could still sense it, Crosser replied negatively. In response to G'vash's questions, Crosser described the disturbance as sinister, likening it to an ancient darkness. Dan speculated it could be related to the Sith, but Crosser dismissed this, citing their extinction centuries ago. Regardless, he decided they needed to investigate. G'vash declared the need for a fight, but Tajin reprimanded his Padawan's eagerness for battle. After reciting a Jedi mantra, Crosser informed G'vash that the nearest inhabited planet was Habo and that they should begin their investigation there. As they prepared to head to Habo, G'vash remarked that their mission had finally become exciting, a sentiment that troubled Crosser.

The Elder

On Habo, a planet Crosser had visited previously, the Jedi landed their ship in a field near a small farming village. G'vash admired the mountain ranges and expressed his liking for Habo, prompting Crosser to recommend the local dish Oon-Doon. As they approached the village, Crosser cautioned G'vash about the Habo people's shyness and asked him to remain behind while he spoke to the villagers. From two locals, Crosser learned that a mysterious elder from an unknown tribe had arrived alone on a ship that landed elsewhere in the region. The man had passed through the village a few days prior and was last seen heading into the mountains alone. Upon returning to G'vash, Crosser observed that his Padawan had already interacted with some local children, which he found impressive given the Habo children's timidity. He informed his Padawan about the mysterious old man, and G'vash questioned if the elder could have been the source of the disturbance. Crosser remained uncertain.

When Crosser mentioned that he had not sensed the presence since arriving on Habo, his apprentice suggested the Force might have misled them. Crosser, however, believed the old man was concealing his presence and that they needed to find him to learn more. G'vash suggested heading into the mountains, but Crosser disagreed, fearing they might miss the elder if they followed him. He proposed waiting for the elder at his ship instead. G'vash suggested splitting up, with Crosser staying in the village and him venturing into the mountains. Despite his reservations, Crosser agreed to G'vash's plan but warned him about the Vamga creatures native to Habo's mountains, suggesting he take a guide to help him navigate. While G'vash set off into the mountains with the village children as his guides, Crosser joined two village leaders and went to the location of the old man's starship nearby.

Upon seeing the starship, Crosser recognized its design from old holos of Sith vessels, but he was unsure of its specific model. He contacted G'vash to update him, and his Padawan asked if the old man was a Sith. Unable to confirm or deny the elder's identity, Crosser simply replied that he had a bad feeling. Meanwhile, G'vash discovered a dead Vamga and informed Crosser that its throat had been slashed. Upon closer inspection, G'vash concluded the wound had been inflicted by a lightsaber, worrying Crosser, who ordered G'vash to return to the village. Before he could comply, G'vash was confronted by the elder. Sensing the old man draw a pair of lightsabers, Crosser told Dan to flee, but his Padawan drew his own blade instead. Crosser began running up the mountain to find his apprentice, and soon it began to rain. As he hastily ascended the mountainside, Crosser sensed G'vash being injured, suffering a cut to the abdomen from the old man.

Upon arriving, Crosser saw the elder seated on a boulder with G'vash's body in front of him. The elder remarked that it had been a long time since he faced an opponent as strong as him, and the two readied their lightsabers. After a brief pause, they engaged in combat. Crosser gained the upper hand, exploiting the old man's arrogance, and destroyed one of the elder's lightsabers, enraging him. The elder extended his hand and began to generate lightning from his fingertips, which Crosser recognized as an ancient Sith technique. While Tajin dodged the initial lighting strike and deflected the rest with his lightsaber, the elder prepared to strike him down. Before he could deliver the blow, however, he was struck by G'vash's blade, which the still-alive G'vash sent hurling towards him using the Force. Capitalizing on this distraction, Crosser ran his saber through the old man's chest. While Crosser rushed to Dan to check on his apprentice, the dying elder used a remote to detonate his ship before crumbling into dust and ash.

After the elder's death, Crosser brought his Padawan to the village to recover from his injury. Later, Crosser, accompanied by G'vash, went to the starship only to find it destroyed. Unable to determine the elder's identity, Crosser refrained from speculating whether he was a Sith but suspected a past affiliation. Crosser confessed to G'vash that he had never encountered such darkness before and that the outcome might have been different had the old man been in his prime. When G'vash countered that his master had defeated him, Crosser denied his victory, attributing the elder's weakness to age. Crosser added that he, too, was losing power with age and told G'vrash that he would grow more powerful, but only if he remembered his training and his kindness. Down in the field below, the Habo children looked to Dan, and Tajin instructed him to say goodbye. As G'vrash went to the children, Crosser looked to the remains of the elder and then gazed at the sky above.

Personality and traits

As a teacher, Tajin Crosser was lenient and kind, but still wished to impart lessons on his impatient student.

Tajin Crosser was a male human with fair skin, [brown](/article/color] eyes, and long, unkempt black hair, complemented by a sparse layer of facial hair. He also bore a scar across his left eyebrow. His extensive travels and patrol duties in the Outer Rim had made him knowledgeable about the various planets he had visited, including their terrain, wildlife, culture, and cuisine. Despite his reputation as an explorer, Crosser dismissed the stories surrounding his life, finding G'vash's claim that he held the record for most planets visited by a Jedi amusing but doubtful. A staunch pacifist, Crosser adhered to the Jedi moral code, valuing balance and stillness over aggression. Despite his strength and rank as a Jedi Master, Crosser believed power was best used to aid the powerless, recognizing its impermanence and the futility of seeking it out of pride. Consequently, Crosser did not take pride in his powers, knowing they would eventually diminish with time.

Tajin and Dan shared a close relationship, characterized by cordiality and faithfulness, despite their differing approaches. Crosser appreciated the peaceful nature of his work, unlike his Padawan. While G'vash craved action and adventure, Crosser was content with patrolling regions and awaiting the emergence of trouble. Despite their differences, they maintained harmony, and Crosser granted G'vash autonomy in his choices, such as allowing him to venture into the Habo mountains without him. Crosser and G'vash also spoke casually, although Crosser remained calm and measured in his speech. G'vash freely expressed his concerns about Crosser or their work. Tajin believed G'vash would become a strong Jedi due to his training but emphasized the importance of remembering kindness, which he considered a vital quality for a Jedi.

Powers and abilities

Although hesitant to resort to fighting, Tajin Crosser was a formidable Jedi Master with exceptional combat skills. Despite his abilities waning with age, Crosser remained a powerful opponent in lightsaber combat. In his duel against the elder, Crosser, wielding a green lightsaber, employed swift defensive techniques to counter his opponent, reflecting his pacifist beliefs and measured approach. During their duel, the elder's overconfidence allowed Crosser to easily disarm him in one swift movement, and a similarly well-timed attack enabled the Jedi Master to deliver the killing blow.

Crosser also possessed significant Force abilities, sensing the elder's presence while in hyperspace, something G'vash could not do. The elder himself eagerly anticipated his fight with Crosser, having sensed his strength in the Force and awaited the opportunity to duel him. Crosser was also physically strong; during his duel against the elder, he was able to maintain his position to block the elder's Force lightning with his lightsaber.
