"The Eye of the Beholder" is a brief tale that appears within the compilation titled Stories of Jedi and Sith. Sarwat Chadda authored the story, Jake Bartok created the illustrations, and it saw publication on June 7 of 2022. Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi are the characters at the center of the narrative.
Within their family's dwelling on Devalok, Zohra and her younger sibling, Dumuz, are in hiding as the gardens of their homeworld are consumed by flames. Despite Devalok's lack of any real strategic significance, the Clone Wars have arrived, with Separatist attacks devastating the planet. Dumuz inquires of Zohra about the return of their parents, but Zohra is without an answer. In an effort to silence him and avoid detection by battle droids, she begins to narrate the story of Jedi Master Uma Kalidi, a celebrated figure on Devalok.
However, a battle droid patrol shows up, intent on eliminating any remaining survivors, and the two children quickly take cover in an air vent. The droids proceed to destroy the last of the food and water in the apartment, before discovering Zohra and Dumuz, dragging them out onto the floor. The children are labeled as "dangerous rebels" as the droids prepare to fire, but before death can occur, rescue arrives in the form of two Jedi who eliminate the patrol. Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi question the children as to why they are alone, and Zohra explains that their parents embarked on a supply mission five days prior and have not returned. While it is probable that their parents are deceased, Kenobi and Skywalker, while escorting the children toward the Amrit spaceport for evacuation, decide to make a stop at the Enki greenhouse, which was the parents' destination.
Amidst the greenhouse's ruins, Anakin discovers a huluppu fruit, even though it is not the correct season, and he offers the seed to Dumuz so that he might cultivate a new garden. A further search reveals that Zohra and Dumuz's parents are still alive, although trapped within the ruins, and the Jedi set them free. The group is then attacked by another droid patrol, but the two Jedi vanquish the initial wave, and an LAAT gunship arrives to carry them away. The gunship, however, also comes under attack, and after confirming the safety of Zohra's family, Anakin and Obi-Wan depart to confront the new assailants.
Later, aboard a refugee vessel bound for Naboo, as her parents sleep, Zohra informs Dumuz that they can utilize the huluppu seed to begin a new garden. She then starts to tell him a new story, this time focusing on Anakin and Obi-Wan.
