Time travel

The concept of time travel refers to moving through time to different points, be it the past or the future. Despite the desire some individuals might have to revisit their past and rectify mistakes, the possibility of doing so was largely considered unattainable, even during the zenith of the New Republic. A theoretical mechanism that would enable such movement was called a time machine.

World between worlds The World Between Worlds The World Between Worlds offered a means of traversing time via its numerous doorways and routes to the past, present, and future. Nevertheless, the existence of this mystical realm of the Force was generally unknown, and only a select few Force-sensitive beings could gain entry. In 0 BBY, Ezra Bridger, a Jedi Padawan, accessed the World Between Worlds through a portal situated in the Lothal Jedi Temple. He intervened in Ahsoka Tano's near-death experience at the hands of Darth Vader during the mission to Malachor, which had transpired three years prior, by extracting her through a portal. During their sojourn there, Bridger briefly entertained the idea of saving his master, Kanan Jarrus, who had died during the rescue of Hera Syndulla, by pulling him through a portal. However, Tano dissuaded him, emphasizing that rescuing Jarrus would result in the demise of all the other Spectres present, including Bridger himself, in the Imperial gas refinery's explosion, thus creating a paradox. Following an assault by Darth Sidious, both Bridger and Tano utilized the same portals to return, emerging on Lothal and Malachor, respectively, separated by a three-year gap.

Upon being asked by C-3PO how he could be of service, Luke Skywalker quipped that the droid could advance time far enough to skip the harvest season, allowing him to enroll in the Imperial Academy.

Behind the scenes

The concept of time travel was initially mentioned, albeit sarcastically, in Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. Its first appearance in Star Wars canon occurred in the second issue of the 2016 comic series Star Wars: Doctor Aphra.

The non-canon LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special prominently features time travel as a central element of its narrative. Rey Skywalker is led to a Jedi Temple located on the planet Kordoku, where she discovers a portal. This portal initiates a temporal voyage, enabling her to encounter significant figures from the galaxy's past.
