The Tri-Scythe-class frigate represented a variation within the Scythe-class main battle cruiser family of spacecraft.

The design of the Tri-Scythe-class was derived from the Scythe-class, but distinguished itself through the incorporation of three blade-like structures, contrasting with the single blade found on standard battle cruisers of that line. Its dimensions and mass exceeded those of Alliance frigates such as the ShaShore-class, a consequence of the augmented reactor and power generator capacity required to power the weapon systems situated on the three forward blade structures. The extensive power distribution architecture mirrored that of the larger Scythe-class.
Regarding its armament, the Tri-Scythe-class possessed a reduced capacity compared to the Scythe-class, yet surpassed that of the ShaShore-class. Due to the added mass of the power support systems, the ship exhibited diminished maneuverability relative to other frigates, rendering the Tri-Scythe vulnerable to flanking maneuvers targeting its lateral and aft sections. In addition to a greater weapons load, the craft also had a slightly larger capacity for carrying smaller support craft compared to other frigates of its time.
At least one vessel of this classification served the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances during the conflict known as the Sith–Imperial War. It successfully withdrew from the Battle of Caamas as the war concluded, and remained an element of the Galactic Alliance Core Fleet, evading the forces of Darth Krayt's Galactic Empire. By 137 ABY, several Tri-Scythes were involved in the Battle of Ralltiir.
