The umbramoth was a substantial moth species inhabiting the forests of the planet called Khofar. A collection of umbramoths was called an eclipse. While in their larvae stage, they developed inside protective cocoons attached to tree trunks. After hatching, these winged beings exhibited an attraction to light. During the High Republic Era, a group of Jedi visited Khofar searching for the Force-sensitive assassin Mae-ho Aniseya. The tracker Bazil guided them through a grove serving as a breeding area for an eclipse of umbramoths. Osha, Aniseya's sister, made contact with one of the umbramoths, causing it to awaken and become aggressive. Jedi Master Sol activated his lightsaber, prompting the umbramoth to fly directly toward it. Sol then sliced the creature in two. Subsequently, another umbramoth ambushed Master Vernestra Rwoh from the rear, but she activated her lightwhip and bisected it.
