Verosha "Osha" Aniseya
Verosha "Osha" Aniseya, known as Oshie to her sister, was a human female Sith acolyte with Force-sensitivity during the High Republic Era. Her mother created her using the Force in conjunction with a vergence located on the planet Brendok. She and her twin sister, Mae-ho "Mae" Aniseya, were raised among a coven of witches. When Mae set the coven's fortress ablaze to prevent Osha from leaving with four Jedi who had discovered them, most of the witches, including their mother, died at the hands of the Jedi. Jedi Master Sol rescued Osha, taking her to Coruscant. There, despite her age, the Jedi Council reluctantly allowed her training.
At the Jedi Temple, Sol accepted Osha as his Padawan. However, she struggled to manage her negative feelings towards her sister concerning her family's death. Due to these issues, and on the advice of the Council and Master Indara, who participated in the original Brendok mission, Osha departed from the Order. By 132 BBY, she was working as a meknek for the Trade Federation. When Mae reappeared and murdered Master Indara on Ueda, Osha was initially accused and arrested by the Jedi for the crime.
Osha was quickly exonerated on Olega after Mae killed Master Torbin, leading to a reunion between the twins. Osha joined forces with her former Jedi Master to bring her sister to justice. The investigation gradually uncovered Sol's involvement in the death of the twin's mother. Betrayed, Osha succumbed to the dark side of the Force and killed her former master. She then accepted an invitation from a Sith known as "The Stranger" to become his Sith apprentice, separating from Mae after the latter voluntarily had her mind erased by the Sith.
Around 156 BBY, Aniseya, who led a coven of witches, utilized an enigmatic power to create Osha and Mae. Koril carried and birthed them, and both women were considered the girls' mothers. The girls were raised on the planet of Brendok, where the coven resided in a secret fortified village that was hidden from both the Republic and the Jedi Order. They were the village's only children. Their mothers were devoted to them but often disagreed on their upbringing, with Aniseya favoring leniency and Koril advocating for a stricter approach.
Aniseya instructed Osha and Mae in the coven's practices, teaching them how to unite and channel the power of the Force, which they referred to as "the Thread." However, Osha was hesitant; unlike Mae, she yearned for a life beyond Brendok, despite her mother's warnings. She often sought solitude beneath a bunta tree outside the village walls, documenting her private thoughts and dreams in a journal that she kept hidden from her sister.
In 148 BBY, when the twins were eight years old, they were scheduled to undergo the coven's Rite of Ascension to become witches. Despite Osha's reluctance, Aniseya and Mae insisted she participate, and she reluctantly agreed. As the ceremony commenced, Aniseya began the rite to make Mae a witch. At that moment, a group of Jedi Knights started forcing their way into the fortress before Aniseya could complete Osha's ascension.
The Jedi—Indara, Sol, Kelnacca, and Torbin—were searching for the coven's children to assess their potential with the Force. The witches attempted to conceal the girls, but Osha, intrigued by the Jedi, approached them. When Sol inquired if she was willing to be tested, she readily agreed. The following day, each girl underwent testing separately aboard the Jedi starship. Mae intentionally failed, as instructed by Aniseya, while Osha gave her best effort and admitted her desire to join the Order.

Returning inside, Osha noticed her sister acting strangely. Upset by Osha's desire to leave the coven, Mae threatened to kill her before locking her in her room. Discovering a drawing of the Jedi symbol in Osha's journal, Mae set it fire, allowing the flames to spread. As the fire grew, Osha bypassed a hatch leading to a tunnel and escaped. Elsewhere, the fortress's main generator exploded, damaging a bridge through its central cavern. On the bridge, Osha encountered Mae, who seemed unaware of the situation. The bridge collapsed, leading Osha to falsely believe her sister had died. However, Sol, sensing Osha falling, used the Force to save her. The fire engulfed the village, killing everyone inside. For years, Osha would blame Mae for the destruction of their home and family, believing her dead until Mae's later reappearance as a mysterious assassin.
Sol, having developed a bond with Osha, took her as his apprentice. They journeyed to Coruscant for her training. Some Jedi opposed Sol's decision, citing Osha's age and her strong attachments as obstacles. Nevertheless, the Jedi Council decided to accept her.
Osha spent the next decade training at the Jedi Temple, befriending fellow Padawan Yord Fandar. Her training was challenging, and she struggled to cope with the loss of her family. Around 138 BBY, she made the decision to leave the Order.
Lacking skills outside the Jedi Order, she became a meknek, finding her Force abilities useful in this perilous, illegal profession. Osha moved from ship to ship, taking on freelance jobs around the CorpSec, including assignments for the Trade Federation. During this period, she acquired a small repair droid named Pip and got a tattoo during a celebration with her crewmates.
In 132 BBY, Jedi Master Indara was murdered on Ueda by an assassin resembling Osha. Yord and his new Padawan, Tasi Lowa, located Osha on the starship Fallon, where she was employed. They questioned Osha, who denied any knowledge of the murder. Subsequently, a witness identified Osha as the assailant, leading Yord to arrest her and send her to Coruscant aboard the Prison ship Palwick. Osha, confident in the Jedi's fairness, did not resist. Consequently, she did not participate when her fellow prisoners staged a mutiny, causing the ship to exit hyperspace in an asteroid field near Carlac before fleeing in an escape pod. Osha managed to unlock her cell with Pip's assistance, but the ship was already crippled by asteroid impacts. She braced herself as the ship crashed on Carlac's frozen surface.
Unconscious in the wreckage, Osha experienced a vision of Mae as a child on Brendok. The vision convinced her that her sister was alive, had killed Indara, and was determined to kill others. Meanwhile, Sol learned about Osha's arrest, the mutiny, and the crash. Believing he was still responsible for her, he traveled to Carlac with his new Padawan, Jecki Lon, and Yord. Initially, Osha fled from the pursuing Jedi, and even upon recognizing Sol, she nearly fell off a cliff trying to escape him. Sol stopped her fall with the Force, and Osha revealed that Mae was alive.

Sol accepted Osha's explanation, but Yord remained skeptical. A message from Master Vernestra Rwoh confirmed Osha's claim: another attack had occurred at the Jedi temple on Olega, also perpetrated by someone resembling Osha. The intended victim was Master Torbin, who, like Sol and Indara, had been stationed on Brendok during the fire—another connection to Mae that prompted Sol to investigate. As the group traveled to the temple, Osha experienced more visions of Mae. Mae, meanwhile, returned and convinced Torbin to commit suicide by drinking bunta. Osha discovered Torbin's body, and Yord witnessed her entering the room, confirming she had not committed the murder. She recognized the empty vial of bunta, a poison that she and Mae had used for hunting on Brendok during the winter.
The Jedi identified Qimir as Mae's likely supplier and accomplice. Following a suggestion from Jecki Lon, Osha, disguised in a cloak, attempted to impersonate Mae to gain information. The ruse failed; Qimir saw through it immediately. Sol, Yord, and Jecki then appeared. Qimir confessed to supplying the poison but denied any further involvement with Mae.
Sol planned to confront Mae that night. Osha wanted to join him, seeking justice for her sister. Sol warned her against interfering, stating that her desire for justice was merely revenge. Pip helped Osha tap into the comms of the Jedi as Sol and Mae faced each other. Osha learned that both she and Mae believed the other had died in the fire on Brendok. As Mae fled, Osha ran to find her. The sisters saw each other for the first time in sixteen years; Osha fired two shots with a stun blaster, missing both times before Mae escaped in a stolen landspeeder.
Osha accompanied the team to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, her home for a decade. Cleared of the murder charges, she prepared to return to her normal life. She watched Jecki conclude a training exercise and approached her to say goodbye and thank her for her help. Jecki invited Osha to stay until Mae was apprehended, but Osha declined, planning to leave without informing Master Sol.
Sol found Osha as she was about to board a transport with Pip. He argued that as Mae's sister, she could help them stop her without resorting to violence. Believing in her inherent goodness and her love for her family, Sol thought Osha could convince Mae to abandon her violent quest. Sol asked Osha to join him on his new mission as a civilian, not a Jedi. Sol's team was going to Khofar to find Master Kelnacca before Mae could target him. Osha accepted, traveling with the Jedi to the planet's surface.
To locate Kelnacca, the team moved through a dense Khofar forest, guided by the tracker Bazil. Osha privately asked Yord to kill Mae if necessary, fearing she might hesitate. Yord suggested that Sol might want her along not to confront Mae, but to heal the inner wound Mae had inflicted. Deeper in the forest, Sol warned the team to move cautiously and avoid disturbing anything. Osha's curiosity led her to poke a growth on a tree trunk, which turned out to be an umbramoth. Sol rescued her, slicing the moth with his lightsaber. Osha realized she could sense the creature with the Force, even in its death. She told Sol that she could sense things again, giving her courage she had lacked before.

Bazil's cry indicated he had found Mae. The Jedi team rushed toward the sound. Yord instructed Osha to stay behind. However, this turned out to be the most dangerous place for her: while the team confronted Mae, who appeared ready to surrender, Mae's master approached from behind, directly toward Osha. Focused on her sister, Osha did not notice him until he was upon her. He ignited his lightsaber and flung Osha aside before attacking the Jedi.
After the battle, Mae and Osha reunited. Osha, unyielding, refused to join Mae, and they fought. Mae knocked Osha unconscious. As she lay on the ground, Mae took her outer robes. The Stranger found her with an abdominal wound and covered her with a blanket.

Osha awoke in a cave, noticing her wound had been treated. Observing cooked food and her sister's belongings, she armed herself with a dagger and searched for the cave's other inhabitant. Following the Stranger, she watched him remove his clothes and swim in a rocky pond. She seized his lightsaber and threatened him. The Stranger defied her, exiting the water and politely requesting to put on clothes while Osha held him at saber point.
Osha then discovered the Stranger's helmet and put it on. As the Stranger knelt before her, smiling, Osha began convulsing, causing him to panic and attempt to remove the helmet. His eyes turned black due to her powers, and he managed to remove the helmet with difficulty.
Regaining her composure, Osha told the Stranger about a vision of Mae killing Sol, though without using a lightsaber. The Stranger suggested she saw a vision of the future, implying Mae could kill without a weapon. Osha insisted the future was not fixed and could be changed.
The Stranger announced his departure aboard his starship. Osha inquired about his destination, noting he knew where Sol and Mae were. The Stranger proposed they travel together.
As a family of Skura foraged on a rocky shore, Osha and the Stranger crossed a stony causeway to the Stranger's starship. The Stranger questioned Osha's reluctance to reveal their destination. Osha countered that they would go together or not at all. When the Stranger asked if he seemed fair, Osha reminded him of his deal with Mae and his expectation that she uphold it, arguing that fairness included trusting her to lead them to their destination.
The Stranger offered to make Osha his student, but she declined. When he called it her last chance, Osha asserted she was not her sister. Impressed, the Stranger noted Mae had made the deal without thinking. She allowed the Stranger to lead, holding back before following him as they took off, unknowingly watched by a dark figure—Darth Plagueis.
The Stranger's ship Exile II descended into Brendok's atmosphere. Osha and the Stranger occupied separate cockpits of the twin boom body. Osha piloted the ship, preventing the Stranger from operating it. She deactivated the controls and informed the Stranger of a landing site near the witches' fortress. Using a topographical map on the ship's computer, she discovered Sol was already at the fortress.
At the base of the fortress, Osha and the Stranger reached the elevator. Osha suggested repairing it instead of climbing. The Stranger questioned her certainty before disappearing, his voice echoing. Osha hotwired the elevator, restoring it. The door slid open.
Osha entered her former bedroom, reflecting on how Mae's desire to prevent her from becoming a Jedi had led to everything. Mae denied responsibility, accusing Sol of lying. Osha interrupted, stating Sol never blamed her and tried to teach her to accept that someone she loved was capable of destruction. She admitted her failure to calm her negative emotions, such as her hatred of Mae and her grief over their mother, which prevented her from becoming a Jedi. She concluded that Mae had ultimately gotten what she wanted. Mae countered that Sol had killed their mother, Aniseya, and was the reason for Osha's negative emotions, accusing him of lying. She asserted that he, not her, had failed. Osha then attacked Mae, and the twins fought. Osha kicked Mae until she realized Pip was in Mae's pouch, squirting water in Osha's eye. The twins continued to fight, using their fists and kicking each other, until they noticed a Jedi ship arriving. Osha looked back to find Mae gone.

As Sol confessed to killing Aniseya, Osha appeared and questioned the truth of his confession. Sol claimed it was the right thing to do, but Osha asked why he hadn't told the Jedi if it was right. Sol explained that without Mae, there was no proof she was created in this way. Osha asked why she was never told. Sol said she would have been sent away because she was too old to be trained, preventing her from becoming a Jedi. Sol insisted he did what he thought was best for her and wanted to tell her many times but couldn't, as he wanted her to have the life she always dreamed about. As Sol was about to say he did everything because he loved her, he began choking. Osha raised her hand, revealing her control, and told him to stop talking, using her anger and unknowingly bleeding Sol's lightsaber, completing her fall to the dark side. Sol managed to say it was okay before Osha killed him. The Stranger tried to comfort her as she broke down in regret, but she ignited Sol's lightsaber. Osha, Mae, and the Stranger watched as the blade slowly turned from blue to red, Mae watching with concern and the Stranger with interest, as Osha stared at the lightsaber in shock.
As the Jedi arrived on Brendok, Osha and Mae escaped. Mae apologized for starting the fire, and Osha replied, "You are with me, and I am with you." They wondered where they learned the rhyme when the Stranger appeared, warning that if he could find them, so could the Jedi, as he grabbed Sol's lightsaber with the Force. Osha said they would explain what Sol did, but the Stranger pointed out that even after everything, her faith was with the Jedi. He warned that if they discovered her power, but Osha interrupted, saying he would meet the same fate as their mother. When Mae asked Osha what she wanted, Osha asked the Stranger to let Mae go, offering to train with him in return. Mae asked if she was sure, noting the Jedi would use her to find her. The Stranger offered to wipe Mae's memory of him and Osha permanently. Mae urged him to do it quickly, but Osha hesitated, not wanting to lose her again. Mae insisted she would do what she was meant to and wouldn't stop her this time. Osha agreed as the Stranger returned Sol's lightsaber. Osha hugged Mae and began crying, promising to find her, to which Mae said she knew she would. Osha and Mae recited their childhood rhyme one last time as the Stranger began wiping Mae's memory. They continued the rhyme but didn't finish before the memory wipe was complete. Osha and Mae said their last words to each other, and Osha left with the Stranger.

Having established a new alliance, the Stranger and Osha went back to their secluded island refuge. As they both looked out over the world's turbulent ocean, the Stranger held Osha's hand as she clutched Sol's lightsaber, now bled and claimed as her own.

Verosha Aniseya, characterized by her dark complexion and brown eyes, stood at a height of 1.67 meters. Her hair was styled in braids accentuated with brown highlights. Throughout her life, she demonstrated both intelligence and courage in the face of numerous difficulties.
During her childhood, Osha exhibited a stronger will and a more independent nature compared to her sister, Mae. While Mae readily embraced all of the coven's teachings, Osha questioned and resisted certain aspects, particularly the witches' insistence on remaining hidden and protected. Her desire was to explore the galaxy beyond their secluded existence. On one occasion, when Mae stated their identical nature, Osha countered that they were fundamentally different. Despite their contrasting personalities, the twins shared a deep and unbreakable bond, which they reinforced by reciting a shared mantra. Years later, when Osha had a vision of Mae, they repeated the same mantra, reaffirming their connection.
From her initial exposure to the Jedi, Osha was captivated by them. She eagerly seized the opportunity to join the Order. However, the sorrow and rage stemming from the Brendok catastrophe hindered her Jedi training. Even years after her departure from the Jedi Order, she grappled with feelings of inadequacy due to her decision to leave. The possibility of rejoining excited her, but she was disappointed by the need to be classified as a civilian. On Khofar, Jecki had to remind her of the many challenges she had overcome.
As an adult, Osha lacked a permanent residence, instead taking on available work on various starships. She effortlessly formed friendships with crewmates like Fillik, but she intentionally avoided establishing close relationships, embracing the perilous and nomadic lifestyle of a meknek. Nevertheless, she held no animosity towards the Jedi. She continued to regard Yord as a friend and remained grateful to Sol for rescuing her during her childhood.
While Osha had received Force training from her coven and had been a dedicated Padawan, her Jedi skills diminished during her years away from the Order, despite her naturally high M-count. She was unable to employ telekinesis as she attempted to escape her cell during the destruction of the Palwick. She could no longer realistically expect to compete with a Jedi Knight in combat. However, she retained her sensitivity to the Force. Her abilities aided her in performing the hazardous task of repairing the hulls of starships in the vastness of space. She experienced visions of her sister, recognizing them as originating from the Force. As Osha spent more time in the company of Sol and the other Jedi, she began to sense the resurgence of her Force abilities.
Possessing a natural aptitude for machines from a young age, Osha was a proficient mechanic capable of navigating various technical systems, especially when working in conjunction with her droid, Pip.
During their upbringing on Brendok, Osha and Mae frequently wore matching attire resembling that of the coven's witches. As a child, Osha maintained a journal filled with drawings depicting her aspirations for a life beyond her home planet, including a depiction of the Jedi Order's symbol. In her room, she kept a collection of useful items, including a tool she used to facilitate her escape during the fire.
During her time as a Jedi Padawan, Osha possessed her own lightsaber. Upon leaving the Order, she relinquished her Jedi weapon.
Following her departure from the Jedi Order, Osha owned few possessions and typically wore the functional attire of a starship mechanic: drab-colored coveralls paired with a vest and utility belt. As a meknek, she wore magnetic grip boots and a spacesuit for working on the exteriors of ships in space. Pip was compact enough to be carried in a pouch attached to her belt, serving as both a mobile toolkit and a constant companion. Nevertheless, she lacked all the necessary resources to maintain Pip to his satisfaction.
During the mission to Khofar, Osha wore civilian clothing provided by the Jedi. This consisted of a light grey robe, a strap for holding her stun blaster, and a pouch for carrying her droid Pip, similar to her previous meknek uniform. Osha also wore a brown backpack and black gloves with the outfit.
After embracing the dark side of the Force, Osha bled the lightsaber of her former Jedi Master Sol and claimed the weapon as her own Sith lightsaber.
Osha Aniseya made her debut in the 2024 Disney+ live-action series The Acolyte in the episode "Lost / Found". As an adult, she is portrayed by Amandla Stenberg, who also plays Aniseya's twin. As a child, she is portrayed by Lauren Brady.
Stenberg was Leslye Headland's top pick for the dual roles. To distinguish the characters, Stenberg associated each with unique walks, scents, and music. For Osha, they listened to electronic music by Aphex Twin to embody the character's technical and analytical nature. Stenberg envisioned Osha as representing the yang force, in contrast to Mae's yin: a force that would be more masculine and bright.
Promotional materials for The Acolyte prominently featured Stenberg as Mae, while the fact that she played a second twin character was kept secret. Two weeks before the premiere, subtitles in a teaser on May 18, 2024, revealed that Osha and Mae were distinct characters played by the same actor. The spoiler subtitle was quickly removed, but pre-release interviews also confirmed that Stenberg would portray both characters. In the following days, YouTuber "Electric Playground Network" and an interviewer for the channel "The Nerds of Color" announced that they were now permitted to discuss Mae and Osha as separate characters.
