The Corporate Sector, often called "CorpSec", existed as a sector within the Outer Rim of the galaxy, according to Legends continuity. It was under the governance of the autonomous Corporate Sector Authority and held the distinction of being the largest corporate-controlled region in the galaxy.
Positioned in the Outer Rim Territories, the Corporate Sector bordered the Aparo and Wyl sectors rimward, situated at the termination point of the Hydian Way. This sector encompassed several thousand populated star systems, alongside over one hundred thousand systems that remained uninhabited.
The establishment of the Corporate Sector occurred in 490 BBY, designed to separate the interests of Republic legislators and corporate financiers following their displacement from the Expansion Region to the Tingel Arm. Initially, the Corporate Sector comprised only a few hundred systems, all devoid of sentient life. Its inception followed the ill-fated experiment involving corporate oversight in the Outer Expansion Zone. The new endeavor involved enhanced regulatory measures; the Republic dispatched a considerable fleet to safeguard worker rights and ensure environmental preservation within the sector's planets. Corporations permitted to function in the sector could acquire extensive spatial territories, yet remained subject to supervision by the Galactic Republic. A universal tax, remitted directly to the Republic government, enabled these companies to circumvent the intricate network of sector, system, planetary, and local taxes prevalent across the majority of Republic worlds. The Tynnans subsequently rose to prominence as pivotal commercial partners within the Corporate Sector. Throughout this period, the sector demonstrated reasonable economic performance, but its limited scale and remote location hindered substantial progress.
Toward the conclusion of the Clone Wars, a half-dozen Recusant-class light destroyers were vended to the Corporate Sector. The only other known vessels of this classification belonged to the Alliance Fleet, with an additional one being part of a clandestine Jedi sanctuary.
During the reign of Emperor Palpatine, the Corporate Sector expanded to encompass nearly 30,000 star systems, leading to the formation of the Corporate Sector Authority to manage the sector's internal affairs. It also stood out as one of the few sectors that the New Order allowed to proceed relatively unhindered from its time during the previous Republic era, as they tolerated corporate competition as long as several companies ensured they did things for the greater good of the Imperial citizenry. Han Solo and Chewbacca were, at one point, banished from the Corporate Sector for "draining all the funds," a detail the former later recalled upon uncovering the Empire's involvement in establishing the Corporate Sector Authority through the Imperial Handbook.
Following the capture of sectors surrounding the Corporate Sector in 6 ABY, Grand Moff Zsinj seized control of the sector in 7 ABY. The Corporate Sector remained under Zsinj's dominion until his death in 8 ABY and maintained neutrality during the Thrawn campaign of 9 ABY.
In 40 ABY, in the wake of the Mission to Adumar, segments of the Corporate Sector allied with Corellia, Commenor, Adumar, and Fondor in opposition to the Galactic Alliance during the Second Galactic Civil War. By 44 ABY, the Corporate Sector experienced a widespread slave uprising, mirroring similar events across the galaxy.
In Omega Squad: Targets, Corporate Sector is shortened to "CorSec", a term usually denoting the Corellian Security Force. The abbreviation "CorpSec" is more commonly used to represent Corporate Sector.
