Jecki Lon

Jecki Lon, a Jedi Padawan during the High Republic Era, was a Theelin-human hybrid who existed around 132 BBY. She displayed a composed and advanced demeanor for someone her age and served as the Padawan to Jedi Master Sol.

Biography

The Aniseya affair

Sometime after her birth circa 150 BBY, Jecki Lon became a member of the Jedi Order. Within its ranks, she functioned as a Jedi Padawan, learning from her master, Jedi Master Sol.

In 132 BBY, Lon interrupted Sol to inform him that Master Vernestra Rwoh requested his presence on the detention level. Noticing her master was viewing a hologram of Verosha “Osha” Aniseya, his former Padawan, Lon inquired if this indicated attachment. Sol responded by saying he thought memories could be instructive, helping to avoid past mistakes, a point Lon vocalized for him. Subsequently, Lon left together with Sol.

Later, Lon accompanied Sol in their pursuit of Osha, who was suspected of murdering Master Indara, on Carlac. Given that this was Lon's first mission, Sol suggested that they acquire backup in the form of Yord Fandar, who Lon felt often behaved in his unique way. Sol and Lon discovered a startled Fandar aboard their Polan-717 Jedi transport ironing his robes while shirtless, prompting Lon to tell him to get dressed in his clothes.

While in hyperspace, Lon inquired about Sol's connection to Osha, leading him to reveal details about their history on Brendok. When Sol mentioned Osha's twin, Mae-ho “Mae” Aniseya, Lon questioned whether she could be the murderer, but her master dismissed this, claiming Mae was dead and that he had witnessed it.

On Carlac, Fandar, Lon, and Sol investigated the wrecked DTE-CSA-17 Calaboose prison ship Palwick, where Osha had been imprisoned, following her tracks through the snowy landscape into a cave. Sol used the Force to prevent Osha from falling off a ledge, and she told Sol that Mae was still alive. The Jedi Master believed Osha, and she exited the cave with them.

Investigation on Olega

While aboard the Polnan, Lon had difficulty inputting command sequences into a control console. Osha, who had been sleeping in the medbay, advised Lon to repolarize the ship's power couplings. Lon successfully did so and then inquired if Osha was a pilot, to which Osha replied that she was a meknek, a profession Lon deemed dangerous and more suited for R2 series astromech droids. Osha countered that she was better company and more adaptable than a droid.

Lon, Fandar, Sol, and Osha Aniseya

Master Rwoh sent Sol's team a message, directing them to investigate a break-in at the Jedi temple on Olega, which was committed by someone resembling Osha. Lon joined Osha, Fandar, and Sol, who were greeted by a local Jedi. Another Jedi arrived with a youngling who had activated the temple's gatekeeper droid. Lon questioned the youngling, who said they had been paid by someone they thought was Osha.

The group then followed the two Jedi into the Olega temple to speak with Master Torbin, only to find Osha, who had taken a shortcut, standing over Torbin's corpse. Osha offered an explanation, which Lon requested, but Fandar defended her, saying he had followed and watched her the entire time. Lon noticed that Torbin, who had ingested poison, showed no signs of a struggle, leading Sol to deduce that the Jedi Master had done so willingly.

Osha informed the others that the poison, bunta, was fast-acting and must have come from a nearby source, which led Osha and the Jedi to monitor a local apothecary. Fandar suggested Lon stay on lookout, but Jecki proposed using Osha and Mae's identical appearances to get a confession from the shopkeeper. Osha did as suggested, and the Jedi entered the apothecary, with Lon telling the proprietor, Qimir, that they had recorded his admission of guilt. Sol interrogated Qimir, who revealed that Mae wanted revenge on four Jedi, before sending Fandar to secure the perimeter and Lon to the ship, planning to return later to apprehend Mae.

That night, Lon stayed on the comms aboard the Polnan while Fandar watched for Mae. Fandar identified Mae and Sol confronted her, resulting in a fight. Lon brought the ship above the conflict and, shining a spotlight on Osha, announced her arrest and demanded she surrender. Mae escaped, leaving Lon without a visual, and after a brief encounter with Osha, fled completely.

The Wookiee and the Sith

At the Jedi Temple, Lon trained with other students under the guidance of Jedi Master Lakshay. Following the session, Osha approached her to say goodbye and thank Lon for finding her sister and clearing her name, which the Padawan attributed to duty. Jecki asked Osha to stay, which led to Osha teasing her about missing her, before noting that Osha cared about her twin, Mae. Osha promised to look Lon up the next time she was on Coruscant, offering to exchange stories about Sol at a cantina. Lon asked whether Aniseya had spoken to Sol about her departure, which she did not want to, not wanting to trouble her former master.

When Sol attempted to find Aniseya, Lon informed her master that Osha had already departed. He then resolved to search for her and eventually convinced her that they needed her on their mission to Khofar, believing she could persuade Mae-ho Aniseya to peacefully accompany them. On the Polnan, Lon went with Sol, Yord Fandar, Verosha Aniseya, Bazil, and a team of Jedi to Khofar in search of the Wookiee Jedi Kelnacca, Mae's next target. Verosha quietly spoke with Jecki about the group's tracker, Bazil, interrupting a mission briefing led by Fandar. Once on Khofar, Lon questioned an alien native using a translator, asking if he'd seen the Wookiee. While traversing the planet's forests, Osha told Lon about an aggressive creature that she disturbed that Sol subsequently killed. The Padawan expressed that witnessing death and transformation into the Force was an honor, and Aniseya decided that she could not accept death as a true Jedi should, troubled by her past experiences with Mae. Lon assured her that people were defined by the experiences they had survived rather than their grief and loss.

Jecki battles The Stranger on Khofar

The Jedi discovered Kelnacca's body and were confronted by a dark figure wielding a red lightsaber—Mae's master. When Jecki questioned what it was, he used the Force to push her and the others aside. Outside Kelnacca's abode, she ambushed an unsuspecting Mae, who had come to turn herself over to the Jedi, fighting her in hand-to-hand and attempting to place her in binders. Lon declared Aniseya under arrest, listing her crimes, but Mae continued to resist being placed into custody. Aniseya held a knife to Lon's throat, but the Padawn brought Mae to the ground and secured her binders.

Jecki is impaled by the Stranger's hidden shoto

Jecki called Kelnacca's lightsaber to her hand, but quickly sensed danger, reaching for her own weapon. Attacked by the lightsaber wielder, the figure commended Lon's loyalty to Mae, who had intended to betray him. The Padawan fought the mysterious adversary, but his armor disabled her lightsaber, causing her to draw Kelnaca's blade. Lon's saber quickly re-activated, and she dueled her opponent using Kelnacca's weapon in conjunction with her own until he destroyed the end of the Wookiee's blade. The Jedi continued to fight alongside Sol. Defending Mae when her master attacked her, Jecki disarmed the opposing duelist—revealed as Qimir—of his helmet, before being stabbed three times in quick succession, killing her.

Legacy

Sol and Qimir briefly discussed Lon immediately after her passing. Sol criticized Qimir for killing her, pointing out that she was just a child, but Qimir shifted the blame for her death back onto Sol for putting her in a dangerous situation. Vernestra Rwoh and Mog Adana later found her body when they and another group of Jedi arrived at Khofar, after Sol sent a distress signal. Rwoh instructed Adana to retrieve the bodies of Lon and her comrades so they could be properly buried.

Behind the scenes

Jecki Lon was created for the 2024 Disney+ live-action series The Acolyte and is played by Dafne Keen. Lon was first revealed in the initial official trailer for the series on March 19, 2024, before simultaneously appearing in "Lost / Found" and "Revenge / Justice," the first two episodes of the series, which premiered on June 4 of the same year.

Series creator Leslye Headland had always wanted to create a Theelin Jedi character, as she admired Rystáll Sant from the 1997 Special Edition re-release of the 1983 film Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi, the concluding chapter of the Star Wars original trilogy. She also mentioned that a key motivation was casting Keen, as she wanted "to see X-23 with a lightsaber." Concept art for Jecki Lon initially portrayed her as human.

Dafne Keen behind the scenes

Keen shared that she believed Jecki Lon developed a crush on Osha, and she portrayed the character accordingly in the episode "Day." She described her portrayal of the Jedi as an eighteen-year-old with limited social experience, experiencing such feelings—including the associated "guilt and confusion" due to the Jedi Order's prohibition of attachments—for the first time. Keen also enjoyed portraying Jecki Lon because of the sense of competition and subsequent friendship between her character and Osha.
