An alphabetic writing system was in use within the galaxy as far back as 32 BBY.
This writing system consisted of gently angled lines together with discrete dots. The glyphs bore some resemblance to the widely used Aurebesh system of writing. To illustrate, the symbol corresponding to the Aurebesh character Aurek was nearly identical in this script, save for being a mirror image horizontally. The letter M, for reasons that remain unclear, was formed from a pair of shapes, visually resembling a fusion of the Aurebesh characters M and I.

During the Battle of Naboo in 32 BBY, Anakin Skywalker found himself concealed within an N-1 starfighter, inadvertently launching it from the hangar under autopilot control. His astromech droid copilot, R2-D2, insisted on the ship's return to the hangar, with the droid's instructions appearing simultaneously on the starfighter's computer screen, rendered in this script.
By 22 BBY, this script was displayed on multiple advertising screens situated on the upper balcony of a Trade Federation office tower located on Coruscant.
In 19 BBY, General Grievous managed to escape capture during the Battle of Coruscant by utilizing an escape pods from the Providence-class Dreadnought Invisible Hand. Within the escape pod, the letters "JKL" and "YZ" were marked utilizing this writing system.

Following severe injuries sustained in a duel on Mustafar also in 19 BBY, Darth Vader was transported to Coruscant and underwent reconstructive surgery and was fitted with cybernetic life support armor. As his helmet was placed, text became visible on the inner lenses of the mask. This text, written in this script, consisted of the word "NAMESTE" (repeated five times), the word "WAR" (repeated three times), and several extended sequences of letters in alphabetical order.
Despite the recreation of Grievous' escape pod from Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith for the opening of the initial episode of Star Wars: The Bad Batch, the inscriptions on the pod's interior are absent in the show.
The reason for the letter M's unique construction in this script, comprised of two shapes resembling a blend of the Aurebesh letters M and I, is not known. This can be observed in R2-D2's communication to Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace (causing "home" to appear as "homie"), and on the lenses of Vader's mask in Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith (altering "NAMESTE" to "NAMIESTE"; this peculiar character also appears in the alphabetical letter sequences). The letter W also exhibits an unusual combination of two characters.
