During the initial years of the Galactic Empire's existence, a rich Chagrian of male persuasion journeyed to the planet Lothal with the express purpose of spectating the gladiatorial spectacle known as Gladiator Night. He procured a VIP box for himself and his four Twi'lek escorts from Ezra Bridger, a local street kid who, while selling the tickets, also managed to pilfer a number of possessions from the visiting dignitary. At the event itself, the Chagrian observed the bounty hunter Bossk disrupt the proceedings. Bossk proceeded to best the gladiators in combat, and then overcame the fight's organizer, Imperial Security Bureau Lieutenant Jenkes, just as other Imperial forces arrived to shut down the illicit gathering.
In the early years of the Galactic Empire's [rule](/article/imperial_era], a male Chagrian made a trip to the planet Lothal to witness Gladiator Night, an unsanctioned competition secretly held on the planet. Accompanied by four female Twi'lek companions, he arrived at the spaceport in Lothal's Capital City, where he encountered Ezra Bridger, a local urchin. The Chagrian, ensuring privacy, inquired about the event, expressing surprise at the 500 credits price for five tickets but ultimately paying 700 for a private box with refreshments. During their exchange, Bridger pointed out a smudge on the Imperial pin the Chagrian wore and offered a cloth to clean it, using the opportunity to surreptitiously steal the pin and other valuables. After the street urchin provided the event ticket from his datapad, the Chagrian inquired about transportation and was informed that a shuttle ride was included. However, upon Bridger's suggestion that a group of Rodians were about to board the shuttle, he opted for a taxi piloted by a Bardottan driver.
Upon arriving at Monad Outpost, the abandoned structure hosting Gladiator Night, the Chagrian placed wagers on the fight between Warjak, the Feeorin, and Borbig Drob, the Houk. He then settled into his private box with his companions, urging the combatants to commence. The fight was soon interrupted by the arrival of Imperial Security Bureau Lieutenant Jenkes in the arena, pursued by the Trandoshan bounty hunter Bossk and Bridger. Jenkes ordered the gladiators to attack Bossk, which they did, but the Trandoshan defeated them both before incapacitating Jenkes. Local Imperial forces, alerted by Bridger to the illegal fight's location, arrived and shut down the event, arresting Jenkes, who was secretly the organizer of Gladiator Night.
The Chagrian, a tall being with prominent horns, initially feigned ignorance about the gladiator event when meeting Ezra Bridger, fearing eavesdroppers. While purchasing the tickets, he peppered Bridger with questions, inquiring about the boy's authorization to sell tickets and the quality of the food at the event. Despite its inclusion in the package, the Chagrian declined to travel via shuttle, avoiding the company of a group of Rodians due to their perceived unpleasant odor. Instead, he heeded Bridger's suggestion and paid for a taxi, neglecting to tip the street urchin. At the arena, after placing his bets, the Chagrian loudly encouraged the combatants to begin, eliciting laughter from his companions as if he had made a witty remark.
While on Lothal, the Chagrian sported an expensive coat adorned with an Imperial allegiance pin. He wore a jeweled ring and a silver wrist comm on his left hand, but these items, along with the pin and most of the contents of his money pouch, were pilfered by Bridger.
The Chagrian made his debut in Ezra's Gamble, a junior novel authored by Ryder Windham and published in 2014. The novel, a tie-in to the television series Star Wars Rebels, did not reveal the character's name.
