During the Great Galactic War that pitted the reconstituted Sith Empire against the Galactic Republic, the Empire employed a scientist to enhance the defensive capabilities of the space fortress belonging to the Sith Emperor. This scientist, regarded as one of the Empire's most brilliant minds, uniquely held the distinction of being the sole non-Sith individual ever granted access to the space station; however, his life was cut short when his Pythar-class Imperial shuttlecraft, named Deference, was destroyed in the Hoth system during the Battle of Hoth in 3665 BBY. The [shuttle](/article/shuttle/legends] carrying the scientist met its end in the Highmount Ridge region of the planet Hoth, remaining there for more than two decades until the White Maw pirates discovered the wreckage and extracted its databank. Subsequently, the Jedi Knights known as Leeha Narezz and the Hero of Tython located the Deference while conducting a search for the plans of the space station.
The initial mention of the scientist occurred within the video game Star Wars: The Old Republic, developed by BioWare. He is identified as the original owner of the shuttle sought by players during the Jedi Knight mission entitled "Sub-Zero Showdown," which takes place on Hoth.
