The Urch system, situated within the Unknown Regions, was home to the planet called Urch. This planet served as the homeworld for the sentient Urchiv-ki species, and it also functioned as the capital for their Tower Dimension government. The Urch Planetary and Space Control arm of the Tower Dimension was responsible for monitoring space traffic in Urch's vicinity. In 19 BBY, the Nikardun Destiny hegemony subjugated the Tower Dimension.
Sometime following this subjugation, the Chiss Ascendancy dispatched Ambassador Boadil'par'gasoi, whose core name was "Ilparg," on a diplomatic mission to Urch. He traveled aboard the Nightdragon man-of-war warship named Vigilant. Upon the starship's arrival, an Urchiv-ki traffic controller denied Ilparg's request to visit. Subsequently, several starships aligned with the Nikardun Destiny attempted to surround and seize the Vigilant. The Chiss man-of-war then made its escape into hyperspace.
The Urch system made its first appearance in the 2020 novel Thrawn Ascendancy: Chaos Rising. This novel was penned by Timothy Zahn as part of his Star Wars: The Ascendancy Trilogy.
