Vaathkree
Vaathkree, alternatively known as Vaath'kror, existed as a planet characterized by volcanic activity, found within the Outer Rim Territories. Specifically, it was situated in the Periphery region of the Tharin sector. This world served as the homeworld for the sentient Vaathkree species. These beings possessed skin composed of either stone or metal and were deeply religious traders. To accommodate off-world guests, the Vaathkree constructed unique structures known as vnals, which were sentient, partly organic domed cities.
Historically, Vaathkree was located within the sphere of influence of the Hutt species. However, by 17 BBY, the Galactic Empire conducted an annexation of Vaathkree and the surrounding Hutt Space area. Despite this, the Empire largely disregarded the planet. Later, during their invasion of the galaxy, the Yuuzhan Vong successfully conquered the Vaath'kror system.
Description
Vaathkree, which shares its name Vaath'kror with its star system, was a planet located in the Outer Rim Territories, specifically in the Slice portion of it. More precisely, it could be found in the Periphery of the Tharin sector. The planet was linked via hyperlanes to both the Solacton and Sriluur systems, requiring a hyperspace journey of one hour and two hours respectively, utilizing a Class 1 hyperdrive. Vaathkree occupied the third and most distant orbital position in its system, a considerable distance from the other two planets. Its year spanned 197 local days, with each day lasting fifty-four standard hours.
The planet's environment was characterized by a heavy gravity of 1.8 standard units and a corrosive, poisonous, and extremely hot Type IV atmosphere. This necessitated the use of environment suits for almost all sentient lifeforms. Its surface was harsh and volatile, constantly bombarded by meteor strikes. It featured active volcanic mountain ranges, deep crevasses, expansive lava fields, and exposed deposits of radioactive metals. The hydrosphere of Vaathkree was arid.
History
The space surrounding Vaathkree was explored sometime between 15,000 BBY and 8000 BBY. However, the planet had already been under the dominion of the Hutt species by 25,000 BBY. During the Pius Dea Era, roughly between 12,000 BBY and 11,000 BBY, Vaathkree was situated outside the boundaries of the Galactic Republic. By 22 BBY, it formed a part of Hutt Space, at which time the Republic's Thirteenth Sector Army was tasked with engaging the military forces of the Confederacy of Independent Systems near Vaathkree, marking the initial stages of the Clone Wars that began in that year.
In 17 BBY, the Galactic Empire annexed the northern regions of Hutt Space, including Vaathkree, although the Empire largely neglected the planet. Sometime between 26 ABY and 27 ABY, the Vaath'kror system was attacked by the Yuuzhan Vong from outside the galaxy, as part of their conquest of the galaxy. By 27 ABY, the star system remained under the control of the invaders.
Inhabitants

The Vaathkree species, sentient aliens with skin covered in scales or plates of stone or metal, originated on Vaathkree, which was their homeworld. The Vaathkree's life cycle commenced as "Stonesingers," small, mobile nodes of living metal ore found in the lava flats and crevasses of Vaathkree. These young Stonesingers lacked cognitive abilities and spent their nights traversing the plains, absorbing lava and stone to incorporate into their bodies. Over two decades, the Stonesingers matured into adult Vaathkree, developing a permanent, typically Humanoid form.
For millennia, the Vaathkree, who communicated via the Vaathkree trade language, actively participated in the Republic and were dedicated traders practicing a religious tradition known as The Deal. The population of Vaathkree was six billion, and they were governed by the Vaathkree Council. Vaathkree society reached a space-faring level of technology, importing computers, droids, and other advanced technology while exporting mid-level technology and raw materials.
Tourists often encountered the Stonesingers, but were instructed to observe them from a distance. The Vaathkree built vnal cities to house visitors. While comfortable for short stays, the living nature of these cities often disturbed guests during longer visits.
Locations
Vaathkree possessed an Imperial-class spaceport. Its surface featured vnals, partly organic domed cities that were living, breathing, sentient constructs created through unique metallurgy and engineering techniques.
Behind the scenes
The planet Vaathkree was initially mentioned in The Last Command Sourcebook (1994), by Eric Trautmann for West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game. Secrets of the Sisar Run (1997) introduced "Vaath'kror" as an alternate name, and The Essential Atlas (2009) placed the Vaath'kror system, and thus the planet, in grid square S-8.
