Vella was a reporter during the time of the Imperial Era, or the journalist profession. Vella was dispatched to De'Rruyet Center located on the planet Midarr to broadcast a live report in 3 ABY. This was when Beol De'Rruyet, the leader of De'Rruyet Industries, planned to unveil a copy of the old Nihil marauder group's Path engine. Domina Tagge from the House of Tagge heard this report while she was on her flagship, known as the Acquisitor.
The 2020 comic series Star Wars: Doctor Aphra featured Vella in flashbacks in its sixth issue. Alyssa Wong wrote the issue, which Marvel Comics released on November 25, 2020. The journalist was mentioned in a preview article on StarWars.com on November 18 of that year, before the comic's release.
