Ventress's lightsaber

After Barriss Offee, the former Padawan, pilfered the lightsabers that Asajj Ventress wielded as Count Dooku's apprentice, the bounty hunter Ventress managed to find a yellow-bladed lightsaber on the black market at some point in time. She saw acquiring this new lightsaber as a method to separate herself from the last tangible connection to her past as Dooku's apprentice. Ventress continued to use this weapon throughout her bounty hunting days. Following her presumed demise on Christophsis, her lightsaber was buried alongside her on Dathomir.

It had a typical hilt shaped like a cylinder and projected a plasma blade of a yellow-colored hue. During the Imperial Era, Ventress employed a yellow lightsaber that featured a curved hilt.

Design

Ventress's unique lightsaber generated a yellow blade emanating from a standard, cylindrical hilt. The power cell was situated at the base of the lightsaber, beneath the textured grip. The activation switch was positioned directly above the grill hilt, which enclosed the remainder of the hilt up to where the blade was emitted.

Boasting an intriguing construction, the bottom section of the lightsaber consisted of a conventional, ridged grip that was completely sealed off to protect the power cell. Conversely, approximately three-fifths of the hilt comprised an upper segment fashioned from perforated metal, exposing the blade's inner mechanisms. Despite this, the design did not seem to make the weapon susceptible to damage from moisture. Essentially, the illuminated core of the lightsaber gave the impression of being both vulnerable and secure, all while remaining a formidable weapon. In this way, the lightsaber mirrored aspects of Ventress' own psychological state.

Behind the scenes

Will Nichols conceived Ventress's lightsaber for the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series. It was planned to be featured in eight episodes with Ventress and Quinlan Vos. However, the show faced cancellation before these episodes could be completed, and the narrative was instead adapted into the novel Dark Disciple penned by Christie Golden. In 2016, Nichols shared the lightsaber's conceptual design in his online portfolio.

The lightsaber's initial design was subsequently incorporated into the resurrected Season 7 of The Clone Wars, serving as one half of Maul's lightsaber.
