Verre Sydia

Verre Sydia was a senator who served the Galactic Republic during both the Great Galactic War and the Cold War against the Sith Empire; she was female. A strong adversary to the Sith, Sydia was unknowingly married to an Imperial spy. This spy exploited her Senate connections without her knowledge. These actions caused the astromech droid T7-O1 to initially suspect Sydia of treason, but the droid ultimately uncovered the husband's true loyalty and ensured his arrest, thereby exonerating Senator Sydia.

Biography

During the Great Galactic War and the Cold War against the Sith Empire, Verre Sydia served as a female senator for the Galactic Republic. She was a firm and often vocal opponent of the Empire. Prior to or during her senatorial term, Sydia married a man, unaware that he was secretly an Imperial spy. Around 3663 BBY, this man leveraged her access to confidential Senate information to hire the bounty hunter Terrin Sandafar.

Sandafar had previously killed an Imperial spy, Eckhorn Baliss, to prevent a list of Imperial traitors within the Republic from being exposed. Approximately a decade later, while Sydia was still a senator, her husband rehired Sandafar. This time, Sandafar was tasked with assassinating the Rodian Shafu, who, as a former slaver, was nearing the discovery of the traitor list for the Jedi Order. Sydia's husband then murdered Sandafar to conceal his own involvement. Around 3643 BBY, the Jedi Knight known as the Hero of Tython and the astromech droid T7-O1 initially suspected Sydia of treason. However, they eventually uncovered the husband's true allegiance, leading to his arrest and the exoneration of the senator.

Personality and traits

Verre Sydia was a dedicated supporter of the Galactic Republic, which she served faithfully, and a strong antagonist of the Sith Empire. She was completely unaware of her husband's true loyalties. Her unwavering dedication was such that T7-O1 initially found it hard to believe she would betray the Republic, even after her connection to Sandafar came to light.

Behind the scenes

The character of Verre Sydia is referenced in several optional dialogues with the Jedi Knight companion T7-O1 within the 2011 video game, Star Wars: The Old Republic, developed by BioWare. Furthermore, the game's files contain an NPC entry for her, titled "Senator Verre Sydia," where she appears among the NPCs associated with T7-O1's companion quests, along with a bodyguard, a bounty hunter, and another character named "Gurn," all listed at level 16. However, none of these characters ultimately made it into the final released version of the game.
