The Vultar system, a component of the Core Worlds, encompassed the planet of Vultar. The Cosmic Turbine, a machine capable of manipulating gravity, was also situated within this system. It was speculated that the ancient Celestial species originally employed this device to construct the entire star system. In the year 4250 BBY, the Vultar system met its end through destruction when a group of Dark Jedi activated the Cosmic Turbine with the intent of weaponizing it against their Jedi Order adversaries. This destruction resulted in the formation of the Vultar Nebula.
Within the Core Worlds, specifically in the Arrowhead region of the Slice, lay the Vultar system. It was home to multiple planets, notably Vultar itself. Furthermore, the star system housed a collection of colossal machines, including the Cosmic Turbine, a device of immense power capable of manipulating gravity.

Evidence suggested that the Celestials, an evolved species that vanished from the galaxy circa 30,000 BBY, were responsible for building the Vultar system and its planets, utilizing the Cosmic Turbine and other related technologies. It is thought that the Killiks, a species relocated from their original homeworld of Alderaan by the Celestials, witnessed the creation of the Vultar system.
During the Third Great Schism in 4250 BBY, a faction of Dark Jedi established a presence within the Vultar system. While there, these followers of the dark side unearthed the Celestial machinery and activated it, intending to turn it against the Jedi Order, their sworn enemies. However, the darksiders were unable to maintain control of these powerful devices, which resulted in a devastating incident known as the Vultar Cataclysm. This event led to the complete destruction of the Vultar system, including the machines themselves and the Dark Jedi. The resulting aftermath of this catastrophe was the formation of the Vultar Nebula.
Records within the Galactic Republic documented the obliteration of the Vultar system. The Jedi Path: A Manual for Students of the Force, a guidebook for Jedi trainees from 990 BBY authored by Restelly Quist, the Jedi Chief Librarian, described the Vultar Cataclysm as "the obliteration of an entire world." Furthermore, Tionne Solusar, a Jedi historian, referenced the fate of the star system in her publication Jedi vs. Sith: The Essential Guide to the Force, released in 40 ABY. In 1 BBY, Doctor Insmot Bowen, a researcher from the Obroan Institute for Archaeology, also mentioned the Vultar system's destruction during a debriefing for the Galactic Empire concerning the Celestials.
The Vultar system was initially brought up in The New Essential Chronology, a reference book from 2005 penned by Daniel Wallace and Kevin J. Anderson. Later, in 2009, The Essential Atlas placed its location within grid square L-10.
Originally, the star system was slated for inclusion in The Essential Guide to Warfare, a reference book released in 2012 by Jason Fry and Paul R. Urquhart. However, the section detailing the system was removed prior to the book's publication. The details about the Cosmic Turbine were subsequently revealed in 2013 as part of Star Wars: The Essential Guide to Warfare Author's Cut, a series of articles published on the StarWars.com Blog by Fry and Erich Schoeneweiss, an editor at Del Rey, and comprised of content excised from The Essential Guide to Warfare.
