The memoir of Wilhuff Tarkin, the Imperial Grand Moff, was authored while he was still alive. Within its pages, he detailed the critical phase of his career as commander of Sentinel Base, the Imperial installation where the Death Star [superweapon](/article/superweapon]'s creation was under his watch. He drew parallels between this undertaking and his formative training on the Carrion Plateau of his homeworld, Eriadu, along with his numerous battlefield experiences, expressing a singular lament: that he hadn't exerted firmer control over the project to expedite its completion. Notably, Tarkin refrained from drawing comparisons between himself and either the Galactic Emperor Sheev Palpatine or the Sith Lord Darth Vader in his writings. The publication of these memoirs was delayed, occurring many years following Tarkin's death during the Battle of Yavin.
James Luceno's 2014 novel, Tarkin, marked the initial appearance of Tarkin's memoir.
