X3-299-11 was a planet situated beyond the reaches of the Outer Rim region of the galaxy. On its surface were various constructions, notably the entrance to an ancient temple which served as the dwelling of the Shadowfang Beast.
X3-299-11, a distant, earth-like planet, was found in a sector far past the Outer Rim Territories. Its landscape consisted of extensive forested areas and mountain chains. The atmosphere was breathable (Type I), and water existed on the surface in the form of rivers and expansive oceans.
The world served as the home for a range of non-sentient species, including a sizable creature suitable for riding, and a species of bird. Several smaller celestial objects were in proximity to X3-299-11, which was in orbit around at least one star.
During the time known as the Hundred-Year Darkness, the Shadowfang Beast, a bioconstruct, came into existence. This creature resided within a temple beneath the planet's surface, protecting an idol secured by numerous archaeotech traps.

Sometime during the reign of the Galactic Empire, the archaeologist turned rogue, Doctor Chelli Aphra, discovered the existence of the idol and journeyed to X3-299-11 with the intention of acquiring it. After she obtained the idol, the Shadowfang Beast consumed her, but she survived due to the null suit she was equipped with. Aware that using blasters would trigger the beast's resonance-absorptive shield, leading to her death, she hired a series of hunters with the goal of subduing and eliminating the creature while preventing the shield's activation.
Despite many hunters failing and losing their lives in their attempts to reach the beast, the hunting duo Nokk and Winloss were successful in rendering it unconscious. Squoxx, one of the hunters previously mortally wounded, then shot and killed the Shadowfang Beast, which allowed Aphra to blast her way out and escape X3-299-11. As she departed the temple using a jetpack, Winloss surreptitiously stole the idol from her, claiming it for himself and Nokk.
X3-299-11 made its debut appearance in Doctor Aphra Annual 2, a comic authored by Simon Spurrier, illustrated by Caspar Wijngaard, and released on September 5, 2018.
