The military division of the Yuuzhan Vong was known as the warrior caste, a specific caste within their society.

Comprising the second largest segment of Yuuzhan Vong society, these warriors underwent rigorous conditioning from their earliest moments to cultivate traits of bravery, ferocity, and utter ruthlessness in combat, not only against perceived "infidels" but also amongst themselves. As the most aggressive of the Yuuzhan Vong castes, they possessed an inflated sense of self-importance, often regarding other castes, particularly the intendant caste, with disdain, a characteristic that would ultimately prove detrimental. This arrogance frequently led them to issue challenges to their adversaries, viewing any refusal as a profound dishonor upon the entire Yuuzhan Vong civilization.

Their designated function positioned them as the foot soldiers, exhibiting unwavering loyalty to both their commanding officers and the deities they worshipped. They were conditioned to suppress any outward display of pain, treating outcomes such as death or dismemberment with indifference; their sole focus remained on inflicting maximum harm upon their enemies. In the theater of battle, a common tactic involved closing the distance with their targets to engage in close-quarters combat.

For the warrior caste, surrender was an inconceivable act, and retreat equated to blatant cowardice. Should a warrior find themselves captured, immediate suicide was the expected course of action, chosen over bringing shame upon themselves or their Domain. Their ethos was defined by a binary choice: victory or annihilation. They often held a degree of respect for courage and resilience displayed by their opponents, finding that the more challenging the battle, the greater their fervor in combat.

In reverence of Yun-Yammka, the Slayer and their revered patron deity, warriors would perform ritualistic sacrifices of body parts, coupled with self-inflicted scarring and tattooing, as a demonstration that their pain was a tribute to him. From infancy, warriors were instilled with the principles of fearlessness, mercilessness, and unquestioning obedience to the directives of their superiors.

The highest echelon within the warrior ranks was occupied by the Warmaster. Another distinguished group was the Hunters, entrusted with assignments that exceeded the capabilities of ordinary warriors. Certain highly seasoned Chazrach were occasionally granted entry into the lower tiers of the warrior caste.

History

Yuuzhan Vong warriors

Following the unsuccessful attempt by the Praetorite Vong to establish a presence within the galaxy, the warrior caste was deployed to reinforce the Praetorite Vong in their efforts to subdue the regions situated within the invasion corridor. Initially, these operations were spearheaded by Shedao Shai until his demise during the Battle of Ithor.

As the conflict escalated, Lando Calrissian's YVH 1 Battle Droids were programmed with a distinctive war cry: "We are machines! We are greater than the Yuuzhan Vong!" This declaration carried significant weight as an insult, given the Yuuzhan Vong's deep-seated animosity towards technology and their xenophobic tendencies. The utterance of this battle cry frequently ignited the warriors' fury, prompting them to launch assaults on the droids.

The unwavering zealotry exhibited by the warrior caste could be exploited to their disadvantage.

Admiral Gial Ackbar estimated that approximately one-third of the warrior population had perished within a three-year span of combat.

In the aftermath of Shimrra's death, a substantial number of warriors chose to end their own lives, while others sought refuge on Zonama Sekot. A century later, two warriors were present, serving as guardians of the Master Shaper overseeing the Ossus Project, as well as safeguarding Jedi artifacts from potential thieves.
