"Zander Freemaker, Superstar Pilot Guy!" represents the fourth installment in a series of five short animated features that were launched on May 4, 2017. These shorts served as promotion for the second season of LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures. It premiered on the LEGO Star Wars official webpage. Later, on June 17, "Zander Freemaker, Superstar Pilot Guy!" was bundled with the other four shorts into a single episode titled "A New Home", also released on the LEGO Star Wars website.
Onboard the MC80A Home One Type Heavy Star Cruiser Home One, Zander Freemaker endeavors to persuade Admiral Ackbar to grant him permission to pilot a starfighter. Admiral Ackbar suggests he discuss the matter with Lieutenant Valeria. Subsequently, Valeria returns from aerial combat piloting an A-wing starfighter. Zander then attempts to convince Valeria to allow him to join her squadron. Despite acknowledging his passion, she rejects his request due to the Rebel's limited availability of spacecraft.
Refusing to be discouraged, Zander then presents his starfighter, the Blazemaker Mark II, which he personally engineered. Valeria expresses admiration for his craftsmanship but notes the absence of blasters on his vessel. Valeria emphasizes the importance of blasters to Zander. At that moment, Admiral Ackbar announces the commencement of an Imperial counteroffensive. Valeria and Blue Squadron then leave the hangar to re-engage in the aerial battle. Rowan and Kordi encourage Zander to persist despite the initial refusal.
Kordi puts on a protective smelting mask, while Rowan employs the Force to lift a laser cannon into the air. Roger struggles to secure it to the Blazemaker Mark II's wing, eventually colliding with a nearby A-wing and causing its destruction. Zander then mounts a massive magma cannon onto the top of his ship. While evaluating their work, Kordi questions whether they have gone too far, but Zander remains confident that his ship is ready for combat. The added weight of the cannons reduces the Blazemaker Mark II's speed, but Zander succeeds in entering the battle. After his departure, the other Freemakers comment that he may have been excessive.
In the vastness of space, Valeria's starfighters are being overwhelmed by the superior numbers and firepower of Imperial TIE fighters. Just as a TIE Interceptor is about to eliminate Valeria's ship, the Blazemaker Mark II obliterates it, leaving the TIE pilot adrift in space. Using the com system, Zander announces his presence to Valeria and proceeds to decimate the TIE fighters. This action shifts the momentum of the aerial battle in favor of the Rebel Alliance. Valeria acknowledges that his ship is unconventional but effective, noting that it has created an advantage.
The remaining three TIE fighters retreat into the depths of space. Zander prepares to unleash his ship's magma cannon, but the cannon malfunctions, resulting in the destruction of the Blazemaker Mark II. Rowan, Kordi, Ackbar, and his Mon Calamari crew observe in dismay. Zander, however, survives the explosion and is propelled through space, ultimately colliding with the Home One's viewport. When Zander concedes that he may have overdone it, Rowan comforts his older brother, pointing out that he is now a hero of the Rebellion.
