Zothip

Zothip served as the supreme commander of the Cavrilhu Pirates for a period beginning roughly a decade prior to the events of the Thrawn campaign, until his ultimate demise near the conclusion of the Caamas Document crisis.

Biography

Zothip possessed a dangerous nature, demonstrating a propensity for harboring resentment and displaying a complete lack of moral constraints in his chosen profession. He was known to jettison members of a starship's crew into the void of space to coerce compliance from the remaining personnel during his raids, earning him the reputation as the "scourge of the Amorris system." When Grand Admiral Thrawn disseminated information among various fringe elements that the Galactic Empire would offer substantial compensation for warships, Niles Ferrier attempted to capitalize on this opportunity by pilfering vessels from the New Republic Defense Fleet stationed at the Sluis Van shipyard. However, Lando Calrissian intervened, advising Ferrier to instead try his luck at the Cavrilhu Pirates' base located on Amorris. Ferrier successfully absconded with three Sienar patrol ships from the pirates, prompting Zothip to vow vengeance against Ferrier and his entire crew. Zothip was ultimately denied the opportunity to inflict retribution upon Ferrier, as the Smugglers' Alliance subsequently eliminated Ferrier for his act of betrayal against them.

In the year 16 ABY, the Cavrilhu Pirates orchestrated an assault on the inhabitants of Lorardian, incurring the animosity of the Mistryl, an event that would ultimately precipitate Zothip's downfall.

Leading up to and during the Caamas Document incident, Zothip engaged in a clandestine agreement with Moff Vilim Disra of the Imperial Remnant. Zothip's organization received on loan some of the few remaining Mount Tantiss clones from Thrawn's campaign against the New Republic a decade prior, and in return, the Imperial Remnant was supplied with Preybird-class starfighters manufactured by the Cavrilhu Pirates. The Imperial Remnant's territorial holdings had been significantly reduced following Grand Admiral Thrawn's demise, resulting in a corresponding decrease in the production of the Empire's traditional TIE Series fighters to a mere trickle. The Preybirds were critically needed, and they proved to be acceptable substitutes for TIE fighters, although they lacked the inherent association with Imperial authority that TIEs typically inspired in most sentient beings. In addition to this exchange, the Imperial Remnant provided the Cavrilhu Pirates with intelligence regarding the locations of New Republic shipping convoys. Both parties derived benefits from this arrangement: Zothip's gang retained any loot acquired from the ships, while the Remnant observed with satisfaction the destabilization of the New Republic's shipping operations.

However, this arrangement between Zothip and Disra eventually created difficulties for both of them. After successfully defending an Ishori shipping convoy from an attack by a group of Cavrilhu pirates, Luke Skywalker launched an investigation that ultimately led him to discover one of the Cavrilhu gang's bases located within the Kauron asteroid field. Skywalker was captured and briefly interrogated by Zothip, but he managed to escape swiftly, narrowly avoiding an explosion triggered by the base's self-destruct mechanism, which Zothip had activated as he fled.

Initially enraged at Disra for allowing this to transpire, Zothip nonetheless agreed to undertake one final task for the scheming moff, enticed by the promise of an unprecedented reward. Disra requested that Zothip attack the Chimaera using ships falsely displaying Corellian insignia, with the intention of deceiving Gilad Pellaeon into believing that Garm Bel Iblis had rejected his peace overture. Pellaeon effortlessly defeated Zothip's force, and Zothip, having suffered further losses to his resources, traveled to Bastion to confront Disra. Upon arriving at the Imperial capital, Zothip infiltrated Disra's private office through a concealed entrance and contacted Disra from the moff's own desk. Major Grodin Tierce, a member of a secret triumvirate established by Disra, proposed that they attempt to intimidate Zothip using their "Grand Admiral Thrawn" deception. The con artist Flim, fully costumed and embodying the persona, delivered a convincing performance for Zothip. However, Zothip remained unconvinced and signaled for his men to launch an attack on the Imperial conspirators.

Major Tierce acted before Zothip's guards could fire a shot, and Tierce was joined by Karoly D'ulin, a Mistryl Shadow Guard who had also sneaked into the secret office and had been hiding outside of the room. After D'ulin and Tierce eliminated the pirates who had accompanied Zothip, Tierce took Zothip down with a kick to the stomach, and D'ulin ended his life with a knife to the back. As he died, D'ulin grabbed Zothip by his beard and made sure he knew that his death was punishment for the slaughter on Lorardian.

Following Zothip's demise, a pirate known as Control assumed leadership of the Cavrilhu Pirates.
