The 87th Sentinel Corps functioned as an infantry corps within the Grand Army of the Republic during the period of the Clone Wars, a conflict between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems. This corps, part of the Republic Military, was comprised of 36,864 troopers, organized into sixteen distinct regiments. The soldiers of this unit were identifiable by the various maroon markings applied to their standard white Phase II clone trooper armor. The 87th Sentinel Corps specialized in the tactics of urban defense, and as such, they found themselves frequently deployed to cities within the Republic that were vulnerable to capture by Separatist forces. The corps was composed of standard clone troopers, alongside more specialized clone sharpshooters, clone trooper officers, and heavy weapons clone troopers. Correspondingly, the unit's soldiers were equipped with weapons such as the DC-15A blaster carbines, Valken-38xs, DC-17 hand blasters, DC-15A blaster rifles, and DC-15LEs.
The initial appearance of the 87th Sentinel Corps was in the Star Wars Battlefront II video game, released by Electronic Arts in 2017. They were originally presented as the default clone trooper appearance for the planet Naboo, but their official identification didn't occur until a game update on February 27, 2019. The update also brought slight visual changes to the 87th clone troopers, including a darkening of the red color, the addition of different patterns, and alterations to their standard equipment.
