Three months following the pivotal Battle of Endor, the Galactic Empire orchestrated the annihilation of Burnin Konn as a component of Operation: Cinder, targeting the world of Burnin Konn. In the course of this assault, General Valin Hess's deployed forces strategically positioned explosives on the geothermal reactors located within the cities; these reactors were responsible for harnessing energy from the planet's magma shifts. The resulting detonations led to the immediate and total obliteration of the city of Chakonnis and its inhabitants. Migs Mayfeld, formerly an Imperial sharpshooter, was stationed on Burnin Konn during the devastating attack as a member of a division that was separated from the main forces; this incident appears to have been the catalyst for his departure from the Empire.
Later, while working undercover alongside Din Djarin, Mayfeld unexpectedly encountered Valin Hess, his former commanding officer from the Burnin Konn conflict. In the ensuing encounter, which involved sharing a charged drink, Mayfeld deliberately brought up the battle and the resulting carnage, a topic that Hess dismissed with scorn and apathy. Consumed by the painful recollections of the battle and incensed by Hess's heartless attitude, Mayfeld retaliated by fatally shooting him.
