Around 49 BBY, a battle occurred in the city Zehava on the planet Melida/Daan. One of the many conflicts between the warring tribes of the Melida and Daan, the fighting began when the Daan launched an assault against the Melida sector of the city. The cousin of the Daan child Nield was forced to fight but was eventually killed in the battle. The orphaned eight-year-old Nield, left on the streets by himself, joined many of the planet's children in a group—the Young—to fight for peace on Melida/Daan. In 44 BBY, Nield's friend Cerasi recounted the struggles of the former's childhood, including the Zehava battle, to Jedi Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi during the Padawan's mission to the world.
The battle was first mentioned in the 1999 young-readers book The Defenders of the Dead, which was written by Jude Watson as the fifth entry of the Jedi Apprentice series.
