Dalnan pepper, named after the planet Dalna, was a type of pepper that the Evereni species could consume. Marda Ro, an Evereni who founded a pirate organization that later became the Nihil, along with the siblings Vika and Velya Faer, partook in a meal made by Ro's assistant Alirya sometime after 379 BBY. This meal had a chemical spice in it. Ro later wrote about this in a journal entry for her descendants, commenting that the spice's flavor brought Dalnan pepper to mind. By 252 BBY, Marchion Ro, her great-great-grandson, had heard her memoirs during his younger years, and that included the message referencing Dalnan spice.
Tessa Gratton penned the short story "A Closed Fist Has No Claws," which mentions Dalnan pepper, and it was featured in the 2023 young-adult collection The High Republic: Tales of Light and Life. This anthology is a component of the broader Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia initiative.
