The episode opens with Enfys Nest inviting Han Solo and Chewbacca to join her Cloud-Riders rebel cell, telling Solo they need warriors and leaders like him. Solo tells her not to hold her breath before leaving with Chewbacca.
The video then flashes forward to Solo firing at stormtroopers on the Death Star with Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia Organa, and Chewbacca. Gripped by the excitement of combat, Solo chases after the retreating stormtroopers, leading Leia to remark that he certainly has courage. However, Solo is forced to retreat when he runs into a phalanx of stormtroopers.
Following the Battle of Yavin, Solo is awarded a golden medal. He wiks a smile with the other "heroes of Yavin." Chewie roars triumphantly. This is followed by a shot of Han flying the Millennium Falcon with his fellow comrades. Later, Solo rides a tauntaun with a snowspeeder patrol sent to look for Skywalker. Solo is showing supporting a wounded Skywalker.
Solo later leads the Endor strike team in combat against Imperial forces during the Battle of Endor. There is a shot of Han accepting a scout trooper's surrender outside the Death Star's shield generator. The narrator explains that in a "galaxy of adventures", even a scoundrel can rise to rebel leader.
This is followed by a flashback shot of General Crix Madine asking General Solo if his strike team is assembled aboard the Home Ones briefing room. Chewbacca roars in affirmation while Leia and Luke volunteer for the strike team. The episode ends with a halo shining over Solo in the briefing room.
The white-bearded member of the Endor strike team, Nik Sant, first seen in Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi and speculated to be former clone Captain Rex, is depicted in recreations of shots from Return of the Jedi in "Han Solo - From Smuggler to General" as Rex, wearing clone trooper armor. Rex also appears in original shots in the short. No official source has currently stated that Rex and Sant are the same character.
