The First Temple, also called the Jedi Praxeum, was situated on the planet Ossus in the Outer Rim Territories, and it was operated by the Jedi Order. Mosaic floors from this temple were recovered and subsequently integrated into the Jedi Order's newer headquarters located on Coruscant, the galactic [capital](/article/capital] world. It was once thought that the Ossus temple was the original Jedi Temple and the location of the Force-sensitive Great Tree.
The Qel-Droma Epics describe that the praxeum's construction was intended to provide lodging for Jedi pilgrims in search of the Eye of Ashlanae. It evolved into a center of learning and support for Jedi who were defending the oppressed across the Outer Rim. At one point, the praxeum housed the largest single collection of Jedi knowledge, including scrolls, holocrons, and other significant items. Jedi Master Odan-Urr underwent his training there under the tutelage of Jedi Master Ooroo, who oversaw the facility until he perished during the Great Hyperspace War. The instruction of Jedi Padawans continued at the praxeum for a millennium, until the Cron Supernova caused the destruction of the city of Knossa. The temple's mosaic floors were eventually recovered and incorporated into the Order's newer headquarters on the galactic [capital](/article/capital] world of Coruscant.
According to the Qel-Droma Epics, the praxeum was built as a five-level ziggurat, with each level dedicated to a value of the Jedi. The Knowledge level, at the top, served as the repository for the most valuable artifacts and texts. Below it was the Harmony level, which housed the Masters' council chamber, diplomatic offices, and areas for meditation. The Serenity level was designated for dormitories, enhanced with meditative balconies, pools, and gardens. The Peace level was the location where Jedi practiced combat techniques. Lastly, the ground level symbolized the Force and was exclusively used for training students in the manipulation of this mystical energy field.
