In 13 BBY, Gerrera adopted the young girl Jyn Erso after her mother, Lyra Erso, was killed and her father, the scientist Galen Erso, was captured. Gerrera piloted the shuttle to the Erso family's homestead-farm on the planet Lah'mu in the Raioballo sector where he rescued the young Jyn and made her a member of his crew.
