Unidentified B1-series battle droid (R2-D2)

This B1-series battle droid, originally a Separatist unit, underwent reprogramming and subsequently served the Galactic Republic during the Clone Wars. Possessing masculine programming, it was part of a group composed of three battle droids operating under the command of the astromech droid R2-D2 during a mission to the Outer Rim planet Lola Sayu. This particular droid, along with its subordinates, piloted the shuttle carrying a Republic strike team—whose members were carbon-frozen—to the planet with the objective of rescuing Jedi Master Even Piell from the [Citadel](/article/citadel] prison.

Following the strike team's entry into the prison, Anakin Skywalker instructed R2 to have his droids land the shuttle at the prison's designated landing area. Upon exiting the shuttle, R2 and the droids encountered K2-B4, a T-series military strategic analysis and tactics droid, who expressed suspicion regarding the shuttle's authenticity. The battle droid swiftly feigned that the astromech was his captive, thereby gaining access to the prison. While inside a turbolift, the battle droid apologized to R2 after the astromech bumped into his leg. Upon linking up with the strike team, one faction of which had been captured but subsequently escaped, the droids once more acted as guards, escorting their "prisoners" towards the shuttle. They were ambushed, resulting in the shuttle's destruction, and the droids joined the remaining team members in their escape. As the fleeing team found themselves trapped between steep cliffs and a large cavern, the droids made the ultimate sacrifice, delaying the pursuing Separatist forces. The leading droid conveyed to R2 that it had been an honor to serve under his command before the droids charged at a LM-432 crab droid, resulting in their destruction.
