Aakaash system

The Aakaash system, as referenced in the Oplovis sector, held a population that Mostima estimated at 174.2 billion, almost entirely human. Though a member world, it maintained significant independence from the Galactic Republic and was governed by the Land & Sky Corporation. In comparison to most Republic worlds, its inhabitants were viewed as quite xenophobic. The star system utilized its own unique currency, and it also possessed a distinct language known for its complexity.

History

Millennia prior to 200 BBY, the Ma family spearheaded the initial colonization of the Aakaash system. The original settlers consisted of humans as well as a variety of aliens, including Twi'lek, Ithorians, and Weequay; however, these alien groups had vanished by the time cities were established. The Ma family held dominion over the system for a period, after which the Nan, Xia, and Chen families, initially vassals, gained prominence. Following a meeting at Lake 101, the Nan family orchestrated and directed the colonization and development of the planet Wind.

Around 300 BBY, the unexplained and suspicious disappearance of a group of Gotal occurred, with no satisfactory explanation provided by the ruling corporation. This incident resulted in widespread Gotal wariness of the sector, making their presence within the system extremely rare.

Behind the scenes

The novel The Vow of Silver Dawn, published in 2020, features the Aakaash system. The Chinese version of the novel refers to the star system as "乾星系," which translates to "Heaven system" within the context of Chinese philosophy. Some chapters also refer to the system as "乾坤星系". The name Aakaash likely originates from Akasha, a Sanskrit term denoting "ether" or "space," a related concept found in Indian and Buddhist philosophy. It is worth noting that the major celestial and orbiting bodies of the system (Heaven, Land, Mountain, Thunder, Water, Fire, Wind, and Lake) correspond to the eight trigrams within Chinese philosophy.
