Accidental Allies

Jyn is aided by Sabine in evading stormtroopers, and subsequently, Jyn returns the favor to Sabine.

Sabine Wren, a member of the Spectres, is attempting to escape from pursuing stormtroopers by traversing the rooftops of Garel City. Sabine uses her comlink to communicate with Hera Syndulla, informing her that she has secured the package and will meet her at the designated location. In the process of leaping across buildings, Sabine accidentally drops the package, which is revealed to be a holo-map. Jyn Erso discovers and picks up the package, recognizing its significance. A stormtrooper spots Jyn, mistaking her for the thief responsible for stealing the map. As Jyn makes her escape, Sabine realizes that the map is missing.

Announcements are made via Imperial loudspeakers, describing the suspect as a female individual with brown hair, considered armed and dangerous. Jyn encounters and swiftly incapacitates two additional stormtroopers. As two more stormtroopers approach and pursue her, Sabine observes Jyn running with the map from a rooftop vantage point. Jyn finds herself trapped in a dead end, with only a large cargo container suspended by a crane separating her from the approaching stormtroopers. With the stormtroopers closing in, Sabine fires at the chains holding the cargo container, causing it to fall and create a barrier between Jyn and her pursuers.

Following the stormtroopers' retreat, Sabine descends from the rooftop and confronts Jyn, asserting her ownership of the map. When Jyn questions Sabine's affiliation, Sabine explains that she lacks the time to elaborate but emphasizes that others are depending on her. Jyn responds by stating that she has previously made similar errors in judgment. Sabine deduces that Jyn is operating independently. As Sabine reiterates her demand for the map, Jyn requests a justification. Sabine reveals that she once worked alone but has since moved beyond prioritizing her own interests, adding that the information contained on the device will benefit others. After some consideration, Jyn agrees to relinquish the map in response to Sabine's plea. Sabine expresses her gratitude, and Jyn offers her good luck before departing over the wall. Sabine then contacts Phoenix Cell, confirming that she has acquired their intel before departing the scene.
