Advanced proton bombs, sometimes simply called advanced bombs, were powerful explosive armaments deployed from BTL Y-wing starfighters flown by the Rebel Alliance. These bombs represented an improved iteration of standard proton bombs, with enhancements designed to significantly amplify their destructive yield.
During the Invasion of Naboo, Lieutenant Gavyn Sykes of the Royal Naboo Security Forces stumbled upon this technology amidst the wreckage of a Trade Federation base that had been subjected to an attack. Subsequently, he integrated these weapons into an NB-1S Royal Bomber.
Luke Skywalker, the commander of the Rebel Alliance's renowned Rogue Squadron, incorporated advanced proton bombs into the BTL-A4 Y-wing starfighters under his command. He secured this upgrade during Rogue Squadron's engagements against the Galactic Empire, approximately six months following the crucial Battle of Yavin. This acquisition occurred either during the Raid on Balmorra, achieved by demolishing a domed structure near a TIE landing zone, or during the Blockade of Chandrila, through the destruction of a nearby AT-ST.
Later, Wedge Antilles, who assumed the role of leader of Rogue Squadron, also uncovered this technology following the Battle of Hoth, during a raid to liberate a prison on Bakura.
Certain variations of these advanced proton bombs possessed a cluster effect, releasing numerous bomblets upon detonation. Antilles discovered this particular upgrade during a mission to Destrillion.
Antilles made yet another discovery of this technology during a battle above Kothlis against an Star Destroyer. The weapon was housed within a Lambda-class T-4a shuttle, presumably en route to deliver it to the Star Destroyer amidst the conflict.
Advanced proton bombs are featured in the Star Wars: Rogue Squadron series of video games. These weapons became accessible after locating the upgrade within specific missions. Obtaining this technology was a prerequisite for earning the gold medal on those missions, and this article operates under the assumption that the player successfully acquired it.
