Affie Hollow

Affie Hollow, a human female, served as the co-pilot of the Vessel under Leox Gyasi's command, operating on behalf of the Byne Guild. The adopted daughter of Guild leader Scover Byne, Hollow, alongside Gyasi, transported Jedi Master Cohmac Vitus, Jedi Knights Orla Jareni and Dez Rydan, and Padawan Reath Silas from the planet Coruscant to the Starlight Beacon during the High Republic Era. Their starship, the Vessel, was compelled to exit hyperspace mid-journey because of wreckage resulting from the Great Hyperspace Disaster.

Biography

Affie Hollow while she was on the Amaxine station.

Around 249 BBY, Affie Hollow was born, raised by her parents who, unbeknownst to her, were indentured pilots in the service of Scover Byne, the head of the Byne Shipping Guild. Her parents frequently accepted perilous assignments from Byne, enticed by the prospect of reducing their period of servitude. When Hollow was quite young, her parents undertook a smuggling operation to the Amaxine Station, a station constructed by the ancient Amaxine warriors and intermittently utilized by smugglers and other indentured pilots. They perished while attempting to utilize the helix rings located on the station, and Byne concealed the specifics of their deaths to shield the Byne Guild from potential legal repercussions. She then adopted Hollow, becoming her adoptive mother, and Hollow developed a fondness for Byne comparable to that she had for her biological parents, entirely unaware that Byne bore indirect responsibility for their demise.

In approximately 235 BBY, when Hollow reached the age of 14, Byne initiated her training in the family enterprise, hoping she would eventually succeed her as the leader of the Byne Guild. Hollow was dispatched to various ships over several months to gain knowledge of piloting and trade, but most of the pilots she accompanied treated her dismissively due to her youth and offered little instruction. This situation improved a year later when she became part of the Vessel's crew, a ship captained by Leox Gyasi with Geode as his navigator. Neither crew member belittled Hollow, and she acquired more knowledge from them than from all the previous Byne Guild pilots combined. Consequently, she requested Byne to allow her to remain on the Vessel, a request Byne hesitantly granted, confident that Gyasi's asexuality would prevent Hollow from encountering anything inappropriate for her age.

Reath Silas, a Jedi friend of Affie Hollow

At the onset of the Nihil conflict, Hollow and the rest of the Vessel's crew, along with the team of Jedi they were ferrying to Starlight Beacon, were forced out of hyperspace by the [Great Hyperspace Disaster](/article/great_hyperspace_disaster]. While stranded on the same Amaxine station where her parents had died, alongside other survivors of the disaster, Hollow realized the guild's utilization of the station. After examining Byne's datapad while on the Republic capital Coruscant, she discovered the truth about her parents' fate. Driven to end the guild's exploitation of indentured workers, she went back to the Amaxine station to gather further evidence, separating from the Jedi who had also returned due to unintentionally unleashing the Drengir during their first visit. As the Nihil and Drengir battled for control of the station, Hollow and the Jedi fled with Geode and Gyasi aboard the Vessel. Upon returning to Coruscant, she presented her findings to the Republic, leading to Byne's arrest and the guild's closure.
