Geode

Geode, a Vintian male, served as the navigator aboard the transport starship called the Vessel. His colleagues on the ship included Leox Gyasi, the pilot, and Affie Hollow, the copilot. His appearance was that of a towering, dark gray rock, resembling flint with a flaky texture. Gyasi mentioned that Geode's actual name was impossible for those with a mouth to pronounce. The Vessel's mission involved carrying Jedi passengers to the Starlight Beacon for its dedication, but their journey was interrupted by the Great Hyperspace Disaster.

Biography

In the year 232 BBY, Geode took on the role of navigator on the transport starship Vessel, working alongside Leox Gyasi, the pilot, and Affie Hollow, the copilot. The Vessel's assignment was to transport a group of four Jedi to the Starlight Beacon for its dedication. Reath Silas, a Padawan, felt perplexed by Geode's very being, while Orla Jareni, a Jedi Knight and Wayseeker, offered him a warm greeting. Geode remained still as he input the coordinates to steer the ship away from Coruscant. During the journey through hyperspace, Silas was taken aback when he saw Geode in the mess hall, wondering how the Vintian had moved from the cockpit to that location. Geode was present while Silas and Hollow had a conversation about the Jedi and celibacy. Later, in the cockpit, Gyasi received explanations from Hollow and Geode concerning the Jedi, particularly their relationships with one another.

As their journey progressed, Gyasi became aware of irregularities in hyperspace traffic and the directions taken by other vessels. When Gyasi inquired whether Geode had noticed the unusual readouts, Geode responded with an ominous silence. A disaster occurred when the transport freighter named Legacy Run crashed into a Nihil Stormship. This collision was orchestrated by Marchion Ro, also known as the Eye of the Nihil, who deliberately positioned the Stormship in its path. The Vessel had to react swiftly to evade the debris scattered across the hyperlanes, but despite their efforts, the ship was hit. Upon realizing that the debris originated from a passenger craft, Gyasi expressed his frustration, wishing it had been "any damn rock out there in space." He immediately apologized to Geode, clarifying that he meant no offense, to which Geode silently indicated that he understood. During the battle against the Drengir and Nihil on the Amaxine Space Station, Geode played a crucial role in saving Silas's life by preventing him from being pulled into the vacuum of space.

In 230 BBY, Geode and the rest of the Vessel crew welcomed Jareni and her Jedi companion, Elzar Mann, who she was assisting in his battle against the dark side of the Force, for transport to Starlight Beacon. Mann initially believed Geode was simply a rock with a Force presence, leading him to think it was a sacred plinth, and remained confused even after Jareni said Geode was a living being, assuming she was testing him. Only when Geode was suddenly a meter behind him as he stood outside the Vessel did Mann realize Vintians were a living species.

Personality and traits

Geode's physical appearance was that of a towering, dark gray rock, characterized by a flinty and flaky surface that subtly shimmered in the light of hyperspace. Hollow described Geode as initially reserved before warming up to others, while Gyasi portrayed him as a lively and social individual, except when focused on navigation. Geode was known for his frequent flirting with women of different species, earning him a reputation as being "on the prowl" according to Leox Gyasi and Affie Hollow. Despite the anatomical differences between Vintians and humans, Geode flirted with Pikka Adren on Starlight Beacon, even in the presence of her husband, Joss Adren.

Behind the scenes

Geode's inaugural appearance occurred in the 2021 young-adult novel titled The High Republic: Into the Dark, penned by Claudia Gray. During the live stream launch event for Star Wars: The High Republic on January 4, 2021, Gray provided a brief introduction to the character before his official debut. His first visual depiction was in the Leox Gyasi episode of Characters of Star Wars: The High Republic, which was released on March 5, 2021.
