The Aleen Underworld represented the uncharted subterranean realm of the planet Aleen. Within the Underworld's distinct atmosphere, the Kindalo species flourished, and it also functioned as the territory of the peculiar entity known as Orphne.
Early in Aleen's planetary development, the Underworld came into existence as arbozoic trees developed and established themselves in the planet's crust. These arbozoic trees, possessing extensive root networks, eventually perished, leaving behind vast caverns in the upper layers of the planet's crust. These caverns fostered the development of a unique atmosphere, which the Kindalo then began to populate as part of their ecosphere. The Great Seal was put in place by the Aleena as a symbolic gesture to isolate the Underworld from the surface inhabitants, representing an agreement between the two races of the world. Due to the planet's tectonic processes, the differing atmospheres of the planet puzzled planetologists from both the Galactic Republic and, subsequently, the Galactic Empire.
The Kindalo's governance within the Underworld was distinctive. The Kindalo practiced a form of complete consensus, necessitating that every member of their species participate in voting on significant issues before any action could be taken. Unanimous agreement from all members of the society was required for action, leading xenobiologists and political theorists from other planets to hypothesize that the Kindalo species was exceptionally small in number. The Underworld also served as the habitat for the enigmatic being referred to as Orphne. Throughout the planet's history, visitors have rarely encountered Orphne, who dwelled within her own specific territory inside the Underworld.
