Earl Alner, a male aristocrat from the Anoat sector, held a position within the Noble Court. This court, the original governing body of the sector, had been decimated and supplanted by the Galactic Empire. Following Emperor Palpatine's death at the Battle of Endor, the Imperials immediately imposed an iron blockade on the Anoat sector, cutting off its inhabitants from external communication. Despite this, Earl Alner learned of Palpatine's demise.
With the Emperor gone, Alner believed the Noble Court required a powerful leader to rise again, a role he felt Her Majesty, the heir to the throne, was unsuited for. He, however, considered himself an ideal king, capable of leading the sector to liberation. Capitalizing on the ensuing chaos, the earl hired assassins to eliminate his political opponents. Loathe, a member of the secret Kouhun society, notably assassinated Duke Misaani and Earl Roubek at Alner's command.
However, Sir Corto Belrake, an agent loyal to Her Majesty, intervened by enlisting a young scoundrel representing the Ivax Syndicate. The scoundrel seized Alner's assets, and eventually, his garrison was surrounded by Noble Court shuttles, preventing his escape. Alner was compelled to confront the scoundrel, attempting bribery, but failed. The earl perished on his property, still firmly believing he was destined to be king. Despite the scoundrel's assistance in resolving a difficult situation, Her Majesty cautioned her young ally to remember Alner's virtues and not judge him solely on his flaws.
