Anoat, situated in the Anoat system within the Outer Rim Territories, was a planet. This world was formerly an extensive city-world and the political center for the Anoat sector, serving as the seat of the Nothoiin Noble Court. However, the Galactic Empire gassed the planet, resulting in widespread pollution and its subsequent abandonment.
The Incisor Sidestep hyperspace route provided a connection between Anoat and the planet Sullust. Furthermore, the Corellian Trade Spine linked Anoat to the Ring of Kafrene mining colony, extending from Anoat into Wild Space.

Anoat, once a sprawling city-world, functioned as the capital for the Anoat sector. However, some years preceding the Battle of Yavin, Captain Ubrik Adelhard was tasked with suppressing a group of dissidents located on Anoat. His chosen method was to gas the entire planet, which led to the atmosphere becoming poisonous and toxic. This event forced a mass exodus from the polluted world. Nevertheless, some individuals remained on the planet. Those who managed to survive, rather than die, were driven to madness by the toxins and gradually transformed into savage and feral creatures known as "Lurkers." During the Galactic Civil War, the Galactic Empire maintained control over the planet and stationed the sector's largest contingent of Imperial forces there.
During their fight against the First Order, the Resistance operated a camp on Anoat. The planet's pollution prevented the detection of the rebels by long-range sensors. Sometime after the Battle of Crait, General Jonato cautioned that a transmission originating from Tah'Nuhna, a Mid Rim world, threatened to expose the Resistance's presence on Anoat. However, Leia Organa overruled him.
