"Altar of Mortis" represents the sixteenth installment within the third season of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated television program. Its original broadcast occurred on February 4 of 2011.
"To prevent the Jedi from departing Mortis, the Son abducts Ahsoka, aiming to tempt Anakin into an alliance. Their combined power would then be used to subdue the Father and Sister. As part of his scheme, the Son subjects Ahsoka to the dark side's influence.
Simultaneously, the Father strives to avert a catastrophic confrontation between his offspring and preserve the Force's increasingly fragile equilibrium on the planet. Fearing the Son's potential invincibility, the Daughter takes a drastic step, leading Obi-Wan Kenobi to the Altar of Mortis. This location houses the Dagger of Mortis, a weapon capable of ending the life of a Force user. The Son seizes the weapon, intending to employ it against his Father, usurping his power and ending his reign. However, the Daughter intervenes, sacrificing herself to protect her Father from the blade."
As Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Ahsoka prepare to leave the world of Mortis, Anakin, while resting after the morning's trials, experiences a troubling dream in which he is back on the planet. A mirror image of himself appears, only to reveal itself as Son, who invites Anakin to embrace the dark side of the Force and restore peace and balance to the galaxy. Upon Anakin's refusal and turning away, Son transforms into a monstrous form and attacks him, jolting him awake. Ahsoka enters the room at that moment. Suddenly, the ship begins to shake violently. Just as Anakin is about to join Obi-Wan at the controls, Son materializes behind them, abducts Ahsoka, and leaps out of the shuttle. He transforms into his gargoyle shape and flies away with Ahsoka in his grasp.
Taking control of the cockpit, Anakin pursued Son into a mist-filled canyon of rocky spires. However, Son accelerates and vanishes into the mist. Anakin increases his speed but instead encounters a peculiar tower supporting a massive, glowing sphere. Barely avoiding a collision with the structure, Anakin loses control of the shuttle, resulting in a crash landing back on the planet, in a region shrouded in darkness. In the distance, they clearly observe the tower with the glowing sphere; Obi-Wan believes Ahsoka is being held there by the Son. Claiming responsibility for Ahsoka's abduction, Anakin prepares to head for the tower, but Obi-Wan restrains him, warning him not to fall into an obvious trap that could lead to disastrous consequences. He suggests consulting Father for guidance, but Anakin proceeds towards the tower regardless. While Obi-Wan contemplates how to reach the Father, he unexpectedly finds himself near the monastery. Inside her prison cell within the tower, Ahsoka attempts to break free, hears a voice, and encounters a creature that confronts her deepest doubts and fears. It questions her Master's whereabouts and asserts that he will not come. Ahsoka retorts that Anakin will rescue her. The creature releases her from her chains, attempts to persuade her to abandon her Master, but, seeing her unwillingness, bites her on the arm. Clutching her arm, Ahsoka collapses on the floor as the creature reverts to its true form, the Son; his bite now contaminates Ahsoka with the dark side of the Force, causing a horrifying transformation.
Subsequently, Son joins his father and sister; Father expresses concern about his son's descent into the Dark Side and urges him to relinquish it, prompting Son to unleash his anger and strike Father with Force lightning just as Obi-Wan arrives. Daughter, hearing the commotion, rushes to her father's aid. At Father's sickbed, Obi-Wan pleads with Daughter to help him stop Son before he escapes the planet, but Daughter, stating that it is not Son's fault as that is his nature, refuses to act against her brother. Upon his suggestion that she and Anakin should combine their powers to stop him, Daughter instead guides him to a cavern containing an altar holding a blade crafted from pure Force, which Obi-Wan is intended to use against her brother.
In the meantime, Anakin successfully scales Son's tower and discovers Ahsoka awaiting him. Unfortunately, he realizes that she has been corrupted by the dark side; Son has infused her with a portion of his own essence, amplifying her insecurities, resentments, and aggressive tendencies. She delivers a message to Anakin: either join the Son or he kills Ahsoka. When Anakin dismisses the threat she ignites her lightsaber and viciously attacks him. Obi-Wan and Daughter confront Son in his inner sanctum, but he manages to separate them by directing Obi-Wan to assist Anakin. As Obi-Wan arrives, Ahsoka turns and activates her shoto and begins to attack them both. During the fight Anakin turns to Obi-Wan knowing that they could not defend themselves for long without either harming Ahsoka or her eliminating them. Obi-Wan then pulls out the Mortis Dagger he received from the cave altar and suggests they free Ahsoka from the Son's influence. Ahsoka, angered and knowing exactly what they have, continues fighting the Jedi to get the blade from Obi-Wan. Meanwhile, Son and Daughter began a duel using their Force powers to overpower each other. They later began shifting in and out of their beast forms. Soon however, they were interrupted by the recovered Father, who hurls them among the Jedi. Son turns his anger against his father, who is unable to prevail against him in his still-weakened state. During the whole ordeal, Ahsoka got up and smirked as the Son uses lightning on the Father. Obi-Wan throws the dagger to Anakin, but Ahsoka dives, catches in mid-air, then runs up to the Son and hands it to him. Son thanks her and claims she is no longer useful to him anymore. Son taps her on the forehead, removing her life force and therefore killing her instantly. Her lifeless body collapses to the floor as her lightsaber rolls out of her limp hand. Enraged, Anakin lunges at the son, but is repelled by the Force. Son then turns and prepares to plunge the dagger into his father, but Daughter steps in front of her father, taking the blade instead, she is mortally wounded. Screaming with sudden anguish, Son flees the scene as Anakin rushes to Ahsoka's side, only to find her eyes completely rolled back.
With Daughter's impending death, the Force's equilibrium is disrupted, and the planet begins to succumb to perpetual darkness. Anakin, kneeling beside Ahsoka's lifeless form, pleads with Father to save her. Daughter uses Anakin as a conduit to channel the last of her life force into Ahsoka, expunging the darkness within her and restoring her to life. Ahsoka awakens, weakened but alive. Anakin embraces his apprentice and inquires about her well-being, only to discover that she has no recollection of the events that transpired. Father urges the Jedi to depart before Son can commandeer their ship and escape the planet, warning them that with the balance destabilized, the dark side and the Sith will gain dominance in the galaxy. Powerless to intervene further, the three Jedi leave the grieving Father beside his daughter.
