The Arakein Monks, a religious order, existed nearly two millennia prior to the Galactic Civil War. These monks constructed a massive chronometer from stone atop a mountain known as Mount Arakeirkos. Legend also says that they would record the names of the deceased in their Book of the Dead, ensuring their eternal remembrance. In 3 ABY, Captain Micha Evon of the Rebel Alliance's 61st Mobile Infantry recounted the story of Mount Arakeirkos and the clock crafted by the Arakein Monks to First Sergeant Hazram Namir.
During the Battle of Jakku which took place in 5 ABY, Vitale, a New Republic pilot, engaged in a game of Who? What? Where? over a comm channel with enemy pilots from the Galactic Empire's 204th Imperial Fighter Wing. The game involved players describing who learned of their death first, along with the circumstances and location. One Imperial pilot expressed a desire for the Arakein Monks to inscribe their name in the supposed Book of the Dead, acknowledging the book's significance.
The Arakein Monks were initially referenced within the 2015 novel titled Battlefront: Twilight Company, which was authored by Alexander Freed.
