Aro N'cookaala served as a security guard of the Gungan species at Substation Grimdock, a moon used as a prison. His post was located in Administrative Sector 44-B when Han Solo arrived at the correctional facility seeking details about Fyzen Gor and the Phylanx Redux Transmitter.
Employed as a security officer within Administrative Sector 44-B of [Substation Grimdock](/article/substation_grimdock], the prison moon, N'cookaala held a strong dislike for his occupation. His employment was due to his inability to secure affordable living arrangements on Naboo.
In 7 ABY, following threats made against Han Solo and Lando Calrissian by the Pau'an gangster Fyzen Gor, they embarked on a quest to Substation Grimdock to find information regarding him. Solo, accompanied by Chewbacca, the Wookiee, and Peekpa, the Ewok slicer, encountered N'cookaala as they attempted to access the Grimdock Archive. Solo tried to address the Gungan utilizing typical Gunganese language. N'cookaala, however, stopped him, expressing his annoyance at the assumption. Unable to provide a convincing justification for accessing the substation's archives, Peekpa offered N'cookaala an explanation, which he accepted as truth.
N'cookaala then guided the trio to the Grimdock Archive, where Peekpa began searching for information pertaining to Gor and the [Phylanx Redux Transmitter](/article/phylanx_redux_transmitter]. Unfortunately, Peekpa inadvertently triggered an alarm, alerting the troopers of the Sef Con who were employed at the prison. N'cookaala entered the archive, informing Solo's group of the situation, before proceeding outside to confront the Sef Con troopers. When the troopers demanded he move aside, N'cookaala refused, shooting them down. With additional Sef Con troopers approaching, N'cookaala led Solo, Chewbacca, and Peekpa toward a secondary exit. However, their path was obstructed by Sef Con's Forosnag Attack Battalion.
Peekpa then used her slicing skills on Substation Grimdock itself, causing the floor beneath the troopers and their forosnags to open up. However, she couldn't prevent the rest of the floor from collapsing as well, and Chewbacca used a suction spike on his bowcaster to prevent them from falling completely. They landed safely, but discovered that the lower levels of the prison were inhabited by carnivorous bastaks. Aro and Peekpa fled from the crustaceans, while Solo became entranced by their hypnotic call. Chewbacca broke Solo's eye contact with the bastak, and they resumed their escape from the creatures.
Aboard the Vermillion, the starship that transported Solo and his team, Calrissian, utilizing a comlink and the droid DRX-7, successfully located their position. As Solo attempted to kill the bastaks using thermal detonators, they were rescued by Taka Jamoreesa, who diverted the bastaks' attention while the group climbed aboard the Vermillion. The ship then flew through the standoff near Substation Grimdock, and was eventually boarded by Captain Krull of the New Republic, who requested information about their mission. With the assistance of Senator Leia Organa, Krull was informed of the mission's confidential nature and, along with N'cookaala, was dropped off on the Tribulan Vort.
N'cookaala, being a Gungan, was offended when individuals resorted to stereotypes about his species. He considered these stereotypes inaccurate and those who used them uninformed. He reveled in presenting arguments against the use of stereotypes, triumphantly ranting to prove his point. N'cookaala was also frustrated by the division between the Naboo people and the Gungans, which he believed had seen little improvement since the Battle of Naboo. Furthermore, he detested his employment at Substation Grimdock and its Imperial-sympathizing management, finding satisfaction in shooting down troopers of Sef Con.
His position as a security guard provided him with a degree of proficiency in using a blaster, even against the highly skilled Sef Con troopers.
Aro N'cookaala's first appearance was in Last Shot, a canon novel from 2018 authored by Daniel José Older.
