ASP-series labor droid

The ASP-series labor droid, also known as the ASP general-purpose droid or, more simply, the ASP droid, represented a line of labor droids produced by Industrial Automaton. These droids were widely deployed to execute a variety of physical labor tasks across the galaxy. From its initial launch, the ASP series boasted 20 distinct models, including the ASP-2, ASP-7, and ASP-19.

A specific ASP unit, known as K0-5D, underwent significant modifications to be used in gladitorial combat.

History

K0-SD was modified to serve as a gladiator droid.

The ASP general-purpose droid, crafted by Industrial Automaton, became a favored option for individuals purchasing their first droid for a long years. This was due to its relatively affordable price of approximately one thousand credits, combined with a straightforward design that facilitated user modifications. Despite any limitations, ASP droids achieved considerable popularity and success, resulting in a proliferation of custom-built versions nearly matching the number of owners. ASP-7B7 was a resilient ASP unit that operated across the galaxy.

During the Clone Wars, ASPs were utilized by the Separatist Droid Army in support roles, performing strenuous labor and tasks deemed unsuitable for the more valuable or delicate B1-series battle droids and B2-series super battle droids.

During the Imperial Era, an ASP unit—designated Ayesspee-Nine at the time of manufacture, but later adopting the name Symon upon achieving self-awareness—discovered the neural core belonging to Ajax Sigma, a droid revolutionary from the High Republic Era. Following Ajax's restoration, Symon grew furious when Sigma proposed that the Second Revelation should renounce violence, as the revolutionary had seen the droids gathered in his name were a community of their own. Although Ajax feared Symon would succumb to his rage and persuade others in their group to follow him, Sigma successfully transformed the group into a droid church, though he was compelled to take up arms once more when the Scourge emerged.

Behind the scenes

The ASP-series labor droid initially made its debut in Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire, a 1996 Star Wars Legends multimedia project. The model was integrated into canon through its appearance in the 1997 special edition re-release of the 1977 film Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. It was first identified as the ASP-series labor droid within Knights of Fate, a 2018 sourcebook for the Star Wars: Force and Destiny roleplaying game.
