Neural core

L3-37's neural core A droid's neural core represented a component, which the Eye of Webbish Bog described as being analogous to what some would call the sentient version of a soul. Following the destruction of the droid rebel Ajax Sigma during the High Republic Era, his neural core was salvaged and preserved. Centuries afterward, the core was hidden within an urn, which was passed between different owners until sometime between approximately 8 BBY and 2 BBY. At that point, it fell into the hands of Augustus Graves, the CEO of the Corellian Engineering Corporation. The Hutt gangster Jabba Desilijic Tiure became aware of the urn's existence and dispatched the smugglers Han Solo and Chewbacca, along with the bounty hunter Greedo, to the planet Corellia to retrieve it. He falsely informed them that the urn contained the ashes of his rival, Krestrel D'Naran. However, by the time the trio infiltrated Graves' penthouse, he had already sold the urn to Madelin Sun, a former sava, on Antillion, where she kept it as part of her collection. Solo, Chewbacca, and the criminal Corbus Tyra, who was pretending to be Solo's father, traveled to Antillion to obtain the urn from Sun, which they eventually succeeded in doing. Graves, in response, hired the bounty hunter Krrsantan to capture Solo, believing he still possessed the urn. Solo maintained to Graves that the urn remained on Antillion, but in reality, Tyra had secretly retrieved it when Krrsantan left with Solo and concealed it aboard the Millennium Falcon.

Later, the Falcon was seized by the Galactic Empire on Iakar. The urn, deemed valuable, was subsequently sent to the office of Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin on Coruscant. Solo, Chewbacca, and the criminal Phaedra later successfully recovered the urn from Tarkin's office. However, when Solo dropped it, the urn broke open, and Phaedra discovered that it did not contain ashes as they had previously been told. Unsure of the true nature of the neural core, they journeyed to Nar Shaddaa, where former Sava Korin Pers revealed its identity. Ultimately, Solo and Chewbacca buried the core in an attempt to conceal it. However, it was later unearthed and given to followers of Sigma, who had constructed a new body for him on Mechis III. They then inserted the neural core into Sigma's head, restoring his consciousness.
