Astenban, a moon, was situated in proximity to Eriadu, a planet within the Seswenna sector of the Outer Rim, and also close to Banchii, a planet in the Outer Rim's Inugg system that was on the main hyperspace route. During the age of the High Republic Era, the Nihil, who were pirates, plotted to utilize this moon as a strategic location from which they could initiate assaults on Banchii and other planets located in the surrounding area, once Astenban was within the Occlusion Zone. In an effort to thwart the Nihil's plans, Sav Malagán, a Jedi Master, along with ZZ-10, a droid, and Shosho, a Banchiian, embarked on a mission that took them to Astenban. While the trio was present on the moon, the Occlusion Zone engulfed Astenban, and the Nihil forces, commanded by Niv Drendow Apruk, a scientist, rapidly launched an invasion of the moon. After encountering the pirate forces, Shosho developed a friendship with Zimtok, a Force-sensitive native creature. Following Malagán's forced destruction of the Nihil base, the Nihil took Zimtok prisoner; however, Shosho pursued her onto the Nihil's ship with the intention of rescuing her. Subsequently, Malagán and ZZ-10 departed from the moon and made their way back to Banchii.
