Aurora (MC80 Star Cruiser)

The Aurora, a MC80 Liberty Type Heavy Star Cruiser, saw action within the Alliance to Restore the Republic's naval forces throughout the Galactic Civil War.

Description

Serving as the flagship, the Aurora, an MC80 Liberty Type Heavy Star Cruiser, commanded a small Alliance group of vessels under Admiral Gial Ackbar in the Mid Rim. This fleet consisted of nine CR90 corvettes, seven EF76 Nebulon-B escort frigates, and five GR-75 medium transports, operating around the period when Alderaan was destroyed.

History

During the course of the Galactic Civil War, the Aurora played a significant role in a battle that occurred at Fostar Haven. In this engagement, it engaged elements of a fleet from the Galactic Empire under the leadership of Imperial Commodore Rae Sloane. Sloane's forces were attempting to intercept an Alderaanian refugee convoy of GR-75 medium transports composed of refugees after their planet, Alderaan, was destroyed.

After Echo Squadron became engaged with Imperial forces, the Aurora positioned itself behind the Imperial command ship Vigilance and other Imperial military ships, initiating an attack. The Aurora received support from several vessels within its fleet, specifically three CR90 corvettes and one EF76 Nebulon-B escort frigate. Following the successful jump to hyperspace by the convoy, the rebel forces, including the Aurora, executed a retreat.

Behind the scenes

The initial appearance of the Aurora was in the 2020 electronic game Star Wars: Squadrons, developed by Motive Studios, a studio belonging to Electronic Arts. The game identifies the Aurora when players target the ship.
